One of my specialties is working with individuals and families that have been affected by addiction(s) in the family . Without judgement and with an atmosphere of safety we begin to explore the process of addiction and family dysfunction that can tear a person, family and community apart. Learning to use recovery tools to help the person and family cope with the stresses of daily life allows the healing process more room to breathe as clients refocus their energies on stability, balance and reconnecting relationships. cash only. no insurance.

Often, these problems cause difficulties in our relationships. My hope is to provide a safe place to be heard and understood. I seek to create a connection with you built through non-judgmental acceptance no matter what your situation. After the first session or two, you will decide if we make a good team for the purpose of addressing your concerns. The fit and connection is essential for success in our sessions.

To support this, I pride myself on offering real-life tools to help people overcome barriers and achieve their goals, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) Parts Work, Mindfulness, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
In the best of conditions, orienting ourselves towards personal growth is challenging and requires focus, dedication, and support. During major life events, staying on this mindful path can become overwhelming and we may find ourselves unable to find our bearings. For over 12 years, I have helped clients navigate difficult life transitions, such as recovery from addiction, overcoming trauma, healing from grief, cultivating healthy relationships, and achieving developmental milestones.

My approach is simple, and different. You can learn to be more empowered in your relationships, with your partner, your family , yourself, your anxieties, your depression. What do you want to experience in your relationships? What do you want to create I focus on helping your "best self" be more in control of your behavior. Learn to let your vision of how you want to live and behave control what you do rather than letting your past learned defenses and feelings be in charge of your behavior.

You may have often heard some people say that therapy is for only those with a mental illness or are "crazy". I'm Mark G. Koch and have been a licensed Marriage Family Therapist since 1996, and I can honestly tell you that those type of statements are a myth. Everyone has a view of how the world works and we use the tools we have to deal with our issues, but occasionally there comes a time when a problem arises that we have no answer to. At this point we become "stuck".

Whether I'm helping a client process their grief, a couple to rebuild trust, a client to create healthy boundaries, or a family to resolve conflict, I appreciate the uniqueness and dignity of each person and relationship.
Do you want to find better solutions...restore broken relationships...communicate more effectively...learn conflict resolution skills...learn healthy coping strategies...or just get "unstuck"? Whatever your goals or needs may be...The good news is that, it is possible to create positive change, discover better ways of doing things, improve your relationships, and make real progress. We all want and deserve to have a fulfilling life, and to experience healthy relationships. That's why, we may need a little help from others in order to get there, but that's an important part of the process...

Thank you for reaching out and taking the first step to ask for help. I know it can be difficult, but I am confident you will not regret the decision. It's not easy navigating through the trials, challenges and stressors of life. We are often put in situations, whether balancing work or family responsibilities, being a caretaker or a student dealing with school and social pressures. You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, guilty or at a loss with yourself or your relationships. Perhaps, as a parent, you are feeling concerned about the changes in your child's mood, behavior or academic performance and need some support.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
