Cancer Therapists in Placerville, CA
My clients are people whose lives have been shaped by trauma, chronic illness, medical experiences, or a body or life that has changed in ways they didn't choose. They're often exhausted from years of advocating in systems that didn't believe them, grieving who they were before everything shifted, or carrying something that talk therapy alone hasn't touched. I work relationally, at a pace that respects fluctuating capacity. For those who are worded out, we find other ways in.

I am a licensed Psychologist and have specialized training in End-of Life transition, Bereavement/Grief, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Though I treat many types of clients, I specialize in working with people going through difficult times in their lives to include loss of a loved one or pet, illness, divorce or relationship disruptions, job loss, depression, and other life transitions. I love my work because, although I initially see people at a low point in their life, as we work together in a deeper way over time, they often find the courage and skills to make a lasting change.

and I support those dealing with or effected by cancer/major illness.
Figuring out what life should look like after a loss can be one of life's most complex and confusing emotional journeys. Sometimes you feel too tired to keep trying. It can be discouraging to keep going and wanting to progress towards relief. No matter the challenge (anxiety and/or depression included), carrying on day to day can be overwhelming, not to mention- extremely exhausting. It is easy for joy and happiness to disappear when surviving becomes our necessary focus. It is also difficult to manage long term when you feel minimal progress has happened. You deserve the space to figure out how life will improve.

Are you exhausted from giving so much of yourself-to your relationships, your work,
your family-and feeling like it’s never quite enough? Maybe you grew up in a home
where love felt conditional or unpredictable, and you learned early to manage everyone else’s emotions while putting your own on hold. Now those patterns are showing up in ways that are hard to ignore: anxiety that won’t quiet down, relationships that leave you feeling depleted, a persistent sense that you’ve lost touch with who you really are.
You don’t have to keep running on empty. Therapy can help you understand where
these patterns came from and how to change them.

You may be the person everyone relies on—the one who keeps showing up, handles what needs to get done, and makes sure everyone else is okay. On the outside, you may seem like you have it together, but internally you feel anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted, or disconnected. You may struggle with boundaries, overthink relationships, or carry painful experiences you’ve never fully had space to process. Therapy can help you slow down, understand what you’ve been carrying, and begin creating meaningful change.

I promote growth and healing through compassionate insight, reflection and strategic direction! Acquired Knowledge seems most beneficial when put to use to benefit ourselves or others, for as we serve and engage with others, we more readily discover our true selves. I subscribe to Emerson's notion; "Do the thing, and you will have the power" rather than give me the power and then I will act! I enjoy being a contributing factor to others growth and advancement and relish witnessing the blossoming of added confidence, enhanced self-esteem. and true growth!

How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.
What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counseling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.
How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
