I am a warm, compassionate and engaged therapist. We can work short or long term but healing trauma can take some time. I use Internal Family systems and EMDR to help heal deep core wounds and release burdens that have been carried in one's system, often for a lifetime. The work is experiential and can be truly transformative. I work with individuals, families and couples. I work well with couples committed to deep work who seek true intimacy.

Do you want to build a stronger connection with your child? Are you concerned you are not able to support your child regulate their emotions? As a family -focused therapist, my goal is to support and foster a positive relationship within family systems and find ways to support different types of relational connection.
Active Waitlist. I am very passionate about supporting children and families in therapeutic work. I can understand and relate to a person who was raised with stacks against him and rose up through hard work and dedication. I was inspired at a young age by a school counselor and I hope to do the same for you and your family . My experience has been primarily with children and families in non-profit and county settings; ages 0-5, children suffering from anxiety, depression, phobias, substance use, oppositional defiance, at risk youth for hospitalization, survivors of trauma, families experiencing big changes and parental difficulties.

Insightful and compassionate describe me as a therapist. I have over 13 years of experience as a school counselor, six of which I have been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist . I specialize in children and adolescent issues, primarily around depression, anxiety, conflictual family issues and low self-esteem that can often lead to low motivation in school, drug use, eating disorders and other maladaptive behaviors. I believe that authenticity and attunement are crucial to healing. As a practiced and engaging counselor, I am able to effectively identify needs and enjoy building connections with youth and families.

I have advanced training in child and family therapy .
Everyone experiences challenges and problems in life. Therapy is a great place for growth, healing, and overcoming obstacles in a safe, confidential, and warm environment. I can help you understand and solve (or resolve) repetitive problems; find new ways of handling and understanding situations and relationships; and guide you in developing skills by utilizing your strengths. I use a collaborative, interactive and strength based approach. Beginning therapy can be difficult for some and I try my best to make my clients feel comfortable with my liberal use of warmth and humor. We will set goals and follow up on them.

We understand what it’s like to work in a high-pressure environment while managing a personal and family life.
You’re considered to be quite successful in many areas of your life. Even though you know this is true, you don’t feel like you’re doing well at the moment. You’re smart, capable, and usually able to solve your problems, but trying to “fix” your emotional struggles just hasn’t worked. The demands of your work and personal life feel like they're just too much for you to handle right now. Your relationship with your partner might be a struggle. You may feel burned out.

Our family -of-origin experiences teach us how to be with others when we are adolescents and adults. As we grow, we develop our coping and communication styles. However, later we may find that some of those early strategies no longer serve us, or that we were misguided, or we find that our choices backfired - which can make navigating the world at times scary and overwhelming. Whether you survived a childhood or other trauma, or were thrown off balance when life took you in unexpected, painful directions, it can be useful to examine your current coping skills and relationships, and determine whether any of your tools need updating.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
