As a trauma-informed clinician, I work with anxiety disorders, eating disorders, mood disorders, chronic pain, depression, relational problems, and substance use disorders.
Trauma has an undeniable effect on people’s lives that can shape core beliefs about self, relationships, and the safety of the world. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and IFS combined with other trauma-informed practices to provide a safe, judgment-free therapeutic environment. I use an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from multiple modalities to provide a holistic, individualized, and comprehensive treatment plan that identifies and addresses your therapeutic goals. I work primarily with trauma and co-occurring issues and disorders associated with traumatic events/experiences.

I work with individuals, couples, and adolescents to explore experiences of attachment trauma, depression, anxiety, PTSD, intrusive thoughts, personal and familial substance use /addiction, compulsions, eating disorders, questions of gender and sexuality, immigration, and adoption.
My practice has primarily derived from an education in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, emphasizing close attention to your developmental history, relational patterns, inhibiting defenses and the neglected power of your inner life. I understand the vulnerability it takes to open yourself up to a therapist, and I promise to join you with patience, strength, and hope on your path to self-understanding. With collaborative and creative intention, I can help you widen your point of view, increase your tolerance for variegated emotions, integrate fragmented parts of yourself, and discover the uncharted material within you.

I specialize in the treatment of trauma and all its various manifestations: Depression/Anxiety, Substance use /addictions, Eating disorders, Disassociation/Derealization, Chronic stress, Relationship discord/Infidelity, PTSD (nightmares, flashbacks, avoidance, hyper-vigilance), and Complex trauma.
“Be yourself! Everyone else is already taken…” – Oscar Wilde. Being yourself is often easier said than done. As a trauma therapist, I see how easy it is for negative experiences to hinder our ability to be the people we want to be and create a life we want to live. Our bodies and minds are amazingly adaptable—we manage to find ways to survive horrible life events—but these survival instincts were meant to be used on a short-term basis. Traumas—big or small—are stored in the body and affects our ability to connect with others, to trust, and to feel safe in the world. The good news is, healing is possible!

I have experience working with those navigating substance use & behavioral addictions, self-harming behaviors, trauma, & grief.
Language & words matter. We define ourselves & our worldview with our words. How do we talk to ourselves? Who or what does our inner-critic or inner-saboteur sound like? Sometimes the layers of “shoulds” in life make us feel trapped, but therapy can offer space to help untangle & deconstruct the “shoulds” to see where they are coming from. The story/stories we choose to tell ourselves & others - that we take to be true - are not always true, or may be distracting us from other possible truths. Noticing & highlighting less visible narratives that align with our truest values can open up new portals & even preferred ways of being.

I've spent the last 10 years working with & relating to young adults (18-35) and helping them through problems from substance use to depression and anxiety.
Are you looking for a therapist that feels relatable and like a real person? If you're anything like I was when I first saw a therapist as a young adult, you crave that authenticity from your counselor. I promise to never ask you "and how does that make you feel?" with a straight face. Don't get me wrong, I *will* ask about your feelings, but I'm not into going through the motions and acting a role. Do you want to spend the time and effort it takes to get down past surface symptoms to the real deep work, to be able to live more comfortably in your own skin, to be able to feel your emotions, not just think them? If so, contact me.

Starting the process of exploring challenging memories, finding ways to let light in through the cracks, and get up and meet your challenges can be a difficult task to tackle on your own. I strive to be the person to advocate, provide a safe environment, and collaborate with you during unexpected, unrehearsed times of hardship, heart ache, loss, or just confusing times. I am also an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and dedicated to providing a safe space and affirmative support. My primary goal is to establish therapeutic alliance that fosters hope, healing, personal growth, and insight to continue to get up and show up in the world.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
