I specialize in depression/anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, substance use disorders, co-dependency and other ACA-related issues, spirituality issues, and issues in adolescents.
Sometimes when life throws us a curve ball, or when we are dealing with a more chronic, ongoing challenge, talking to a therapist can help us see our inner strengths and abilities which can help us successfully navigate through these challenging times. Talking to a therapist can also help us push ourselves to reach even greater personal goals.

As an Asian-American with extensive experience living overseas, I also specialize in issues related to intercultural issues, cross-cultural adjustment, burnout, identity formation, spirituality , and grief/loss.
Many of us appear to be functioning well in life, but in reality feel like imposters, often stressed and unsatisfied in our lives and relationships. I foster the discovery of genuine peace and fulfillment through "undoing aloneness," helping clients embrace their best and worst selves, and unearthing a more self-compassionate and authentic way of being. My clients are typically individuals and couples, seeking treatment for anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, and a wide variety of relational issues.

I am professionally trained in trauma resolution (EMDR) and spirituality yet I enter the therapeutic relationship as someone who has personally tasted the power of transformation as an immigrant and someone in an interracial marriage.
Are you tired of being unable to do the things you want to do, but repeatedly do the things you do not want to do? Are your best intentions producing the kind of relational fruit you desire in your relationships? The invisible pain from the emotional, relational, and spiritual realm activates the same region of your brain that is under physical pain. The need for proper attention and treatment for this invisible pain is as urgent and necessary as physical pain. Your pain will be properly metabolized through validation and comfort and ready to be resurrected as wisdom, strength, and compassion

I work with individuals and couples who have tried to grow and live a full life but find themselves stuck. Pain comes in many different forms such as trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, discrimination, betrayal, anger, or just feeling lost. This pain can be like quicksand, constantly trapping you no matter what you do or try. My specialty is working with people whose pain is made more complex by intersecting identities (Religion/ Spirituality , Culture/Race/Ethnicity, LGBTQ+, immigration). In addition, I have specializations in working with, multiracial people, emerging adults, helping professionals, and men.

I am trained to integrate issues of religion and spirituality into treatment, to the extent that you, the client, desire me to do so.
I specialize in working with individual adults and couples who, despite success they may be experiencing in many aspects of their lives, are feeling depressed and/or anxious, and who may have reached a point where their life lacks a sense of purpose and meaning. Ideally, clients I work with are willing to explore their past for the purpose of identifying patterns in the way they have behaved and felt, and for the purpose of understanding how these patterns may have developed. Then, I will help you identify specific changes you may want to consider to help you move forward.

I also work with spirituality and identity questions surrounding growth and meaning-making.
Our identity is shaped by our relationships. Those attachments have created patterns in our lives we may not be aware of. Therapy is a great place to explore those patterns. Whether you'd like to work through some current stumbling blocks that seem to keep you from thriving, or explore deeper patterns that you've developed from earlier childhood experiences, I am here every step of the way. No one should walk alone. Call me today for a FREE phone consultation! (Please leave a message when you call). Thank you!

These are challenging and chaotic times that can lead to feelings of uncertainty, loneliness, and anxiety. I create a space that is warm, compassionate, and empathetic so you don't have to deal with these emotions alone. I love to work with young adults (20s-40s) experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship difficulties (whether you're partnered or trying to date in the 21st century), grief, life transitions, and issues related to spirituality . Often our work will involve processing and releasing pain centering around belonging, self-worth, and safety so you can find new ways of relating to yourself and the world.

My masters focus was on the integration of psychology and spirituality .
Life can be challenging and complex. At times we are faced with situations that feel overwhelming and seemingly insurmountable. Trauma can result in a loss of a sense of self and hopelessness. Engaging in therapy is a personal decision; one that requires commitment and hard work to attain life changes. I believe therapy tailored to meet individual needs can facilitate increased self-awareness leading to emotional, as well as, relational attunement and enhancement. I work with clients from diverse backgrounds, offering sensitivity to experiences of marginalization, ableism, discrimination, racism, or other 'isms encountered.

I also have life long interest in wholistic health and spirituality .
As a therapist, I see myself guiding people on their life path by overcoming such obstacles as depression, anxiety, fear, self-limiting beliefs, and helping them to experience instead the beauty and warmth of their inner rainbow, of claiming joy as their birthright. I love working especially with women at a major transition in their lives: whether from young adulthood to womanhood, from motherhood to 'empty nest' and, ultimately, menopause; women in quest for healthy relationships and a greater meaning in their lives. Spiritual growth, creativity, finding one's purpose - are important issues for everybody to be able to live life to its fullest. I weave my work with a variety of therapeutic approaches including Holistic Healing, Dreamwork and Art Therapy. I'll be happy to discuss any needs you might have to see which modality - group or/and individual therapy - would be the best for you.

Areas of focus: attachment, pregnancy, motherhood, identity, divorce, spirituality .
In life, our experiences shape and form us in significant ways. Research in the areas of attachment and neurobiology support this, along with showing us the importance of processing and making meaning of what has happened to us. Some experiences are harder to face than others, often because they can bring up pain, confusion, or are overwhelming. As humans, this makes so much sense. We are wired to protect ourselves and we do the best we can to achieve a sense of safety. This is a good thing we are able to do. However, when left too unexamined or unprocessed, troubling symptoms can arise and we may feel stuck.

I also am open to addressing spirituality -related issues with my clients.
It's been a struggle recently. You are feeling stretched thin. You think of yourself as a kind, caring and giving person. Although you've tried to keep it together, your feelings of stress, tiredness and frustration are leaking out. What's worse is that this especially shows up in your interactions with the people who are closest to you. You're wondering how you got here and if you are even the person you thought you were. You are feeling disconnected from yourself and others, tired and raw.

The most fascinating and important part of my job as a therapist is how to have a really good conversation. It may sound too simple, but it cuts to the heart of what to expect from therapy. Through good conversation, you experience connection and understanding. When we are understood, difficult feelings change with resulting freedoms to engage life. Trained both as a Marriage and Family therapist and a psychoanalyst, I work with complex relationship issues, divorce and blended families, depression, anxiety, addictions, men's issues, and sexual trauma recovery, and integration of psychology and faith/ spirituality .

I have had extensive experience in supporting those experiencing: grief/loss, intergenerational/cultural, complex trauma, spirituality /faith, anxiety/depression, self-esteem, life transitions, relational/support, identity related issues by tailoring sessions to best suit your needs, to empower going at your own pace.
You are doing it. You are here and that means you are doing it- you're finding a way to get through the day and navigate your own set of life happenings (both chosen and unchosen). We have our sets of vices, our ways of coping, in order to help us survive, with the hope of thriving. But we all get stuck too, we all feel helpless and we all get overwhelmed- we're human. Still, it tends to be a truth that we'll believe for.. a friend, a stranger even, but not ourselves. You deserve to believe you are human, to give yourself room to grow and grieve and heal as a beautiful, imperfect, unique and worthy you. You are worth it.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
