With training in EMDR and a
psychodynamic
orientation, I focus on creating a safe relationship where you can learn how your inner world colors your external experience.
You're an artist, an activist, a breaker of generational cycles who is looking to deepen your healing journey. You dream of having an integrated life where your emotions, intuition, and spirit can coexist. A life where healthy relationships flourish and your contributions to the culture are seen. You may feel exhausted by the experience of being a person of color, and you might be hungry for a safe space where you can show up as your full self. Perhaps you overthink and seek an embodied experience, a space where healing moves from the intellect to the physical. Welcome. You're home.

The lotus flower is the only flower that seeds and blooms simultaneously. The lotus is rooted in muddy water, developing in the midst of thick struggle and obstacles. When the lotus emerges, it cleans the water, transforming its environment. This is where it blooms seeking the light of the sun while sending out seeds of possibility into the world. The lotus symbolizes cause and effect teaching us that each action we take will produce a result and that we contain all the material needed to mend/heal unresolved wounds and traumas.

My integrative approach to therapy often includes a blend of
psychodynamic
philosophy (exploring thought and emotional experiences) and existential elements (finding meaning and purpose in life), ultimately tailored to each individual, couple/relationship, and group.
I help adults make sense of their experiences in a meaningful way. People come to me who are inquisitive and trying their best, yet still feel detached and longing for a better understanding of their lives. Oftentimes they’ve been in the driver’s seat going 100 miles an hour for years and can’t quite figure out how to slow down. Together, we work to slow fast-paced life, be present, and ultimately, see the once-blurry scenes in a clearer way. Just as each road trip is unique, so too is our tailor-made therapy. If you’re open-minded, motivated, and filled with curiosity, let’s see if we’re a good match!

I work from a trauma-informed,
psychodynamic
, and attachment-based approach with elements of CBT and mindfulness.
Hello and welcome. Looking for a therapist can be an intimidating process and if you are here, it is because you have decided to make this important step toward your well-being. You may be anxious, depressed, stressed, or struggling with the relationships with people in your life and looking for a way to feel better. I specialize in working with people who identify as LGBTQIA, BIPOC, and first- and second-generation immigrants. As a child of immigrants myself, I understand the unique challenges and perspectives that can come with trying to reconcile one’s identity and culture with the dominant culture-at-large.

In my work with individuals and couples, I seek to provide a warm, safe, and supportive environment in which individual and relational issues can be explored. In this environment, challenges become opportunities for growth.
I use a
psychodynamic
approach to explore what is occurring in one's life and/or relationship in the present, what occurred in one's past which influences the way one views him or herself in the present, and what may be going on at an unconscious level which impacts one's choices, behaviors, and beliefs about self and other.

I practice
psychodynamic
therapy with adults facing depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, relationship problems, and personality disorders.
"How we do anything is how we do everything." We move through life in a distinct way that was shaped before we can remember, reinforces itself everyday, and inevitably leads to the same problems despite our best efforts to change. Do anxiety and depression color your everyday experience? Has addiction taken hold of your life? Do you struggle to build satisfying relationships? Through courageous self-exploration, I can help you find compassion for yourself and come to understand why you encounter the same issues again and again. Building this understanding and taking responsibility for your life can empower you to heal and grow.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families on creating meaningful life experiences and in overcoming difficult challenges.

My psychotherapy approach draws from
psychodynamic

My approach to therapy is Psychoanalytic and
Psychodynamic
which promote self-discovery and greater insight into unconscious processes.
If you are experiencing or have experienced trauma, anxiety, low self-esteem, mood disorders, identity construction (gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation), and/or life-changing situations related to immigration, infidelity, separation, abuse, issues related to intimacy and sex, you may feel stuck in life. I know that these experiences are difficult to process or overcome, and may make you feel isolated, hopeless, or misunderstood. I can heIp you! I am interested in unconscious patterns, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that take over your life and relationships, and hold you back from living a more satisfying and fulfilling life.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
