I utilize Internal Family Systems , mindfulness, and relational therapy.
Hola/Hello! I am Jennifer Cardoza, aka “Jenny” and I am a Bilingual Spanish-speaking Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California. I am passionate about empowerment, growth, equality and strengthening connection with yourself and others. I love working with those who want to increase self-esteem, body image, positive connections and process trauma. The journey of life is complex as we can experience stress, depression, anxiety, life transitions, grief and loss and trauma. As a Latina, Salvadoran American, and daughter of immigrant parents growing up in LA, I have experienced and witnessed the level of stigma around mental health.

I utilize the Internal Family Systems ( IFS ) framework with many clients.
When someone is thinking about finding a therapist they are choosing a hopeful and courageous path. They know they need support, maybe things they've tried in the past haven't worked as well as they'd hoped. I bring a compassionate and curious lens to gently explore the factors that contribute to the way you experience the world. These factors may include events in your past, stressors in your present life, or the effect of living within societal structures that may not support your full and complex development. I have an affirming approach that respects all genders, races, sexual identities, everyone!

In addition to traditional talk and Internal Family Systems therapies, I am trained in EMDR, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, and I employ Somatic and Mindfulness-based techniques to help clients utilize healthy coping skills.
It is easy to feel anxious, overwhelmed, and stressed in today’s world. We might even be aware we are stuck in patterns that no longer benefit us. During these times, talking to a therapist can help. I am guided by my belief that our families and our social and cultural systems impact our ability to live fulfilling lives. My goal is to develop safe and secure therapeutic relationships where we can uncover and address the source of your challenges and past traumas on your terms. Through our work together, we can also develop goals and plans to empower you to improve your relationships with yourself and others.

I specialize in IFS , DBT, and CBT to help my clients to identify their internal parts and help these parts to discover healthier skills for coping.
Life can feel impossible to avoid struggling and we often don't feel we have the skills to cope successfully through. Unfortunately, sometimes we don't have all the resources we need for a given situation. Parts of us take on desperate roles trying to help us to survive. This might look like anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, and relationship/family issues. I aim to help you process unresolved issues and feelings and find solutions.

I also utilize the Enneagram as a tool for growth, parts work ( IFS ) and help clients develop tools to regulate their nervous system (TRM).
I love working with people who are focused on personal growth and healing. I enjoy helping clients understand their own story, which often results in changing their current narrative to one that is more empowering. My hope is to see clients walk in greater freedom and see tangible changes happen in their life, while also enjoying this messy, yet beautiful process of healing as much as possible! I believe that as we grow in self awareness and develop a deeper sense of identity, that shame, disappointment and negative beliefs no longer have the same hold over us and we can move toward a deeper sense of fulfillment in life.

I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities to customize your sessions, including IFS , ACT, CBT, Brainspotting, Gottman, and more.
Therapy is a powerful catalyst for transformation where our innate capacity to heal and grow is brought to light. I provide a safe and supportive environment where you can talk openly about your hopes and fears without any concern of judgment. I actively engage with you and provide feedback. A good portion of our work together will be about restoring extreme or wounded parts by looking at patterns, behaviors, and any adverse events that have shaped your life. Together we will access and heal these parts. I specialize in working with teens, adults, and couples struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and trauma.

I am certified in EMDR and IFS , and am an approved IFS clinical consultant.
The capacity for healing resides in everyone. Therapy is about unhooking from self-limiting adaptive patterns, while cultivating self-acceptance and reconnecting with essential wise parts of yourself. I work with men and women using a depth-oriented, body-mind approach to explore the complexity of identity and relationships. My aim is to help you understand from an embodied perspective the deeper dynamics of your struggle, strengthen the parts inside of you that can move beyond it and engage in life with a greater sense of meaning, strength, and self-compassion.

My main approach is IFS and “parts work”--a unique modality which emphasizes self-compassion and kind attention to all our various “parts”.
“Be yourself! Everyone else is already taken…” – Oscar Wilde. Being yourself is often easier said than done. As a trauma therapist, I see how easy it is for negative experiences to hinder our ability to be the people we want to be and create a life we want to live. Our bodies and minds are amazingly adaptable—we manage to find ways to survive horrible life events—but these survival instincts were meant to be used on a short-term basis. Traumas—big or small—are stored in the body and affects our ability to connect with others, to trust, and to feel safe in the world. The good news is, healing is possible!

Trauma has an undeniable effect on people’s lives that can shape core beliefs about self, relationships, and the safety of the world. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and IFS combined with other trauma-informed practices to provide a safe, judgment-free therapeutic environment. I use an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from multiple modalities to provide a holistic, individualized, and comprehensive treatment plan that identifies and addresses your therapeutic goals. I work primarily with trauma and co-occurring issues and disorders associated with traumatic events/experiences.

I have been in private practice for more than 25 years and I am trained in many therapeutic modalities; including IFS (https://www.
Are you interested in decreasing anxious feelings and improving your mood? Does thinking about issues become confusing rather than helpful? I work with individuals to slow down rapid thoughts and gain a greater sense of control. Clients are able to become more in tune with themselves through their participation inside and outside of counseling sessions. This is a mindfulness approach that taps the inner strengths of each individual to promote healing and growth. In a safe affirming environment, clients learn new perspectives on whatever has troubled them and begin to heal. Clients' input and questions are always welcome.

I am a certified EMDR Consultant-in-Training, Level 2 IFS therapist, and trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Brainspotting, and TRM.
Do you have an irrational, gut feeling you can't seem to shake? Maybe something telling you that you're not good enough, unsafe, powerless...? Sometimes, difficult experiences in our past can cloud how we live in and see the present. We find ourselves overreacting to things or people, feeling anxious or worthless. Our head can tell us we are being irrational, but that doesn't change the feeling. One of my goals is in helping you re-process the experiences in your life that push these feelings, so you not only know that you're okay - you feel it.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
