My name is Marissa and I’m a licensed Marriage and Family therapist. I do only telehealth-online individual therapy and couples therapy. I can speak Spanish. I Specialize in grief, anxiety, communication issues, managing anger, trauma, and adjustment to life issues. Active listening is a huge part in therapy and it is important for you to be heard. Paraphrasing is something I use where I repeat back what the client said to make sure I have a clear understanding. My goal is to make the client comfortable enough in session so they can share what is troubling them.

Many of my clients report that they struggle with high levels of anxiety, are perfectionists, self-critical, have low self esteem and are extremely sensitive to the energy and moods of others. They are empathic to the point of having difficulty identifying what feelings belong to them versus what feelings belong to others. They struggle with disordered eating, toxic relationships, finding balance between productivity and self care and having clear boundaries. Many have had little luck with traditional talk therapy and are looking for someone that can help get them out of their heads and into their bodies.

My focus in working with clients is to explore what prevents them from having the quality of life that they desire. One of my core beliefs is that people do the best they can given the context of their lives and the support available to them. People are endlessly remaking or discovering themselves; therefore, my clients and I work together to deepen their awareness of themselves and how they function in their world (with family, relationships, at work, school, friends) by exploring their experiences. Over a period of time, these explorations lead to new perspectives, increased choices, and new behaviors.

Feeling alone in your grief, stress, or sadness is an overwhelming place to be. For many of us, facing a major loss or life transition without support can lead to feeling stuck or even hopeless. These emotions are normal if you live with a chronic illness or are the caregiver for someone with a chronic illness. It is natural to desire balance and moments of relief in your daily life, but you may find those difficult to create given the relentless task of managing the chronic medical condition.

My ideal clients are caregivers, professionals, and creative thinkers who look put-together but feel overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected. They want to understand why they repeat old patterns, struggle with boundaries, or carry tension that shows up in their bodies and relationships. They’re seeking clarity, emotional relief, and a sense of balance they can trust. I use EMDR, mindfulness, and a compassionate, whole-person approach to help you heal the roots of these patterns so you can feel grounded, confident, and aligned. Together, we create lasting shifts that support a more joyful, connected, and sustainable way of living.

I believe healing happens in spaces where people feel genuinely seen, heard, and honored, and where the therapeutic relationship becomes a foundation for rebuilding trust, both in others and within oneself. I work with adults, couples, teens, and families navigating the impacts of trauma, anxiety, depression, systemic and cultural stress, life transitions, and relational wounds.

You are someone who has always had BIG feelings. You’re stuck, finding it difficult to connect to the things that bring you joy and purpose. You’re concerned about your relationships. What do the people you care about most think of you? Do they like you? Are you enough? You’re a hard worker, an overachiever even, who finds themselves on the frequent verge of burnout. Decision making can be so challenging for you, there’s so much you’re not sure of yet. You want to be able to advocate for your own needs. You want to know how to have emotionally honest conversations and set boundaries.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
