In addition we may utilize dreams and art as a form of exploration.
Life can be challenging and complex. At times we are faced with situations that feel overwhelming and seemingly insurmountable. Trauma can result in a loss of a sense of self and hopelessness. Engaging in therapy is a personal decision; one that requires commitment and hard work to attain life changes. I believe therapy tailored to meet individual needs can facilitate increased self-awareness leading to emotional, as well as, relational attunement and enhancement. I work with clients from diverse backgrounds, offering sensitivity to experiences of marginalization, ableism, discrimination, racism, or other 'isms encountered.

I'm guessing that if you're reading this then you're going through something that's making life difficult and I'm sorry about that. Maybe you're not where you thought you should be, or maybe getting through the day is your only goal. Whatever it is, I believe that therapy can help. It can provide us with some much needed support and encouragement. More importantly, therapy can strengthen and increase our self-esteem and confidence as we navigate relationships, social media, and our futures.

In addition to Drama Therapy & EMDR, I use techniques to spur your creativity; play, movement, guided imagery, art , breathing and felt senses.
Do you need a place to be yourself? To be seen and fully accepted for who you are and encouraged to take leaps and risks to craft who you want to be? The fear of failure and judgments, our own and others, often holds us back from exploring the edge of our possibilities. I am passionate about creating a nurturing relationship where you can begin to practice and embody the changes you want to create in your own life. I work with individuals, couples, children, adolescents and families. I specialize in women who are reinventing themselves and family members of individuals with mental illness.

As a registered art therapist, I offer an alternative language for people in moments when words do not suffice.
You are not the problems you are dealing with. The fundamental belief that guides my practice as a psychotherapist is that all of us are worthy, lovable and creative beings capable of thriving and sustaining meaningful relationships. But there are times when we may lose sight of that. Perhaps you have been functioning well for years, but something has happened to upset your equilibrium or temporarily overwhelm your ability to cope. Perhaps you have been harboring feelings of inadequacy your whole life. In either instance, I can help reacquaint you with your strength and purpose, and innate worthiness.

I believe in the sacred art of telling our story through the creative process.
You may feel broken, different, and struggle to make all the "pieces" fit together. Perhaps that is further complicated because you are a survivor of trauma, or struggling with immense grief, and find it difficult to maintain healthy relationships or feel balanced. We cannot go back in time, but we have this sacred moment, and I want to help you grasp it and make it genuine. I want to help you find choice, autonomy and radical compassion in who you are. If you are partnered, I want to help you develop skills to nourish growth in that partnership.

I offer a psychodynamic approach, guiding clients through steps for recovery including reconnection to a sense of safety in body and mind to allow reprocessing of past emotional content, and soothing of an inner critic with mindful compassion, narrative or art therapy .
Are you caught in a cycle of stretching towards your highest achievements only to plummet again into anxiety, depression, or grief? Are your moods susceptible to external circumstances, ebbing with highs and lows as do the tides? Trauma, currently or in the past, remembered or lost to consciousness, is stored in our bodies and neural networks and is often the silent culprit behind relationship issues, depression, anxiety, grief, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, feelings of shame, inadequacy, suicidality and self-harm. Let's reconnect the pathway to the Self you are meant be.

As a therapist, I see myself guiding people on their life path by overcoming such obstacles as depression, anxiety, fear, self-limiting beliefs, and helping them to experience instead the beauty and warmth of their inner rainbow, of claiming joy as their birthright. I love working especially with women at a major transition in their lives: whether from young adulthood to womanhood, from motherhood to 'empty nest' and, ultimately, menopause; women in quest for healthy relationships and a greater meaning in their lives. Spiritual growth, creativity, finding one's purpose - are important issues for everybody to be able to live life to its fullest. I weave my work with a variety of therapeutic approaches including Holistic Healing, Dreamwork and Art Therapy . I'll be happy to discuss any needs you might have to see which modality - group or/and individual therapy - would be the best for you.

When more than talk-therapy is needed, I use art therapy and EMDR to help clients release the weight of the past.
In all phases of life, we face constant change and unexpected circumstances. Even for those who are strongly independent and resilient, life can be overwhelming at times. Therapy can be a space to explore the parts of life that feel uncertain and unmanageable, and identify where you want to go from here. Building the foundation for growth in therapy starts by creating a safe, genuine space where people can feel heard, understood, and valued for the person they are. I believe that people can foster long-term growth through understanding their journey, connecting with their true emotions, and empowering choice with authenticity.

I have experience working with adults and older adults utilizing interventions from cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-informed therapy approaches, strengths-based approaches, solution-focused work, art therapy , and mindfulness practices.
I approach therapy from a trauma-informed, client-centered lens focused on empathy and compassion to support the creation of long-term, effective changes. I strive to equip my clients with the hope that it is normal to feel any and every kind of emotion but also give them tools to cope effectively and learn from those emotions. My goal is to provide a trusting environment to uncover those human emotions, find what works or does not work, and collaborate to reach new and healthier goals for life.

I enjoy working with pre-teens, teens, adults and families through somatic awareness, art and talk therapies to gain insight and resources to manage their experiences and work toward positive changes in their lives.
I don't believe that struggling is weak or wrong, it allows us to grow into stronger and more capable people. I think that there are some experiences that hit us a little harder than others and have us needing some support along the way, everyone has conflict and difficulty in their lives at one time or another. I also believe that our emotional challenges can affect our physical experience through anxiety symptoms, chronic pain, exhaustion and difficulty sleeping as well as in other ways.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
