I work primarily with trauma, depression, anxiety , phobias, identity exploration, autism spectrum disorder, self-esteem, grief and loss, and other concerns.
I believe everyone's feelings, personal history, strengths, and struggles are unique. At the same time, we are all a part of the connected, human story. But sometimes we can feel alone in our suffering, or even when we try and achieve positive goals. I work with adults, couples, and families by using my diverse training in a way that fits their particular styles and needs. Through relational connection, collaborating on concrete coping skills, and exploration of current and past patterns, I have seen tremendous healing in my partnership with clients.

I view therapy as transformation through relationship - a safe haven where exploration, development and change can take place. Therapy can be utilized whether or not you are experiencing severe distress, have a curiosity about you and your world, or are finding yourself unsatisfied with your current relationships, or circumstances. I have extensive clinical experience in treating the following mental health issues in children and adults: depression, anxiety , trauma, grief and loss. It is important to take care of yourself and if we are a good fit, we can make sure you get what you need.

An incomplete tapestry picture (unresolved conflicts within self and relationships) can cause feelings of guilt and anxiety .
I am Eileen Beirich, PsyD, MFT. I encourage patients toward an acquired awareness and management of conflict out of attachment and self-regulation issues. Using dynamic family systems, I begin to review a patient's family of origin story about how life has been lived. I introduce an idea of looking at life's picture like it is a tapestry. A tapestry is constructed of many colored threads laid down next to each other to blend into a picture. Sometimes a person does not have a completed tapestry picture of life.

Sometimes life can be like standing in a garden filled with weeds that are 20 feet tall leading you to feel stuck, suffocated, and lonely. It can be hard to know where to start and how to make your way through the weeds. Depression and anxiety can often make us feel the same way. What are the current weeds in your life? Grief? Anxiety ? Dating? Relationship conflicts?

EMDR is a powerful and effective tool to use with trauma, first responders, athletes, military personnel, performance anxiety , test anxiety , phobias, depression, and grief.
Are you feeling lost? Like you are stuck, and you do not see a way forward? It is a sinking feeling - but you are not alone. We all know what it feels like to be stuck. To face challenges, problems, and adversity. We feel alone and do not know how to find our way out. All the stress and uncertainty make it hard to sleep. It is impossible to focus at work, get things done, and our to-do list keeps getting longer and longer. Feeling stuck often means we feel overwhelmed and do not even know where to start.

After a decade of clinical experience, one thing I have learned is that no matter what reason brings you to therapy, the single most important factor in finding the right therapist for you is comfort and trust in the relationship, not just clinical skill. This is where you as the client get to be choosey. I'm a highly interactive therapist, as eager to offer observations and insights as I am to listen. My approach to therapy focuses on developing your strengths and effective coping tools, while helping clients build insight into underlying factors that feed problematic symptoms.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
