My ADHD coaching -- ADHD Traction -- is about personal transformation: outer and inner.
Are you sick and tired of suffering with ADHD ? Is your life anxious and overwhelming? Are you frustrated and depressed by having great potential but no plan? If so, I get it. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of forty. Before then, life felt like one long battle that was grinding me down. But it doesn't have to be that way. Unemployment/under-employment, failing relationships, money stress, distraction/disorganization, lack of motivation, impulsive behavior, overwhelm, chaotic emotions, shame, low esteem, self-medication, no purpose in life: these are all things my clients overcome. You can too.

I provide therapy and psychological testing for anxiety, ADHD and Autism.
As a parent, you want your child to feel confident. You want them to communicate well, make good friends, cope with hard things, and succeed academically. But it can be so hard when your child struggles with anxiety, sadness, low self-esteem or difficulty in school. You may feel frustrated and confused when they refuse to follow directions or are frequently angry. I work with children, teenagers and parents to solve challenges and find hope and resilience.

Do past traumas trigger you? Are you suffering with a chronic disease (e.g., pain, fibromyalgia, diabetes, obesity)? And are any of these health issues making you feel chronically stressed and/or depressed? Do you think you have ADHD because you can’t focus and feel so overwhelmed? If so, therapy can help. When trauma occurs, our minds often create a defense like avoidance to protect us from danger. While avoiding trauma is adaptive at first, over time, suppressing our emotions leads to our bodies rebelling which manifests as physical illnesses such as migraines, panic attacks, obesity, diabetes, etc.

Everyone has goals in life, but at times it may be difficult to achieve those goals, resulting in feelings of anxiety or depression. Using a holistic, strength-based approach we will explore factors that may have gotten in the way of achieving your goals, such as life stressors, relationship difficulties, or insecurities. Together we will focus on addressing these obstacles in order to allow you to achieve your goals and thrive. I also offer psychological testing to investigate what obstacles may be present (i.e., ADHD , memory problems, personality characteristics, etc.) and provide recommendations on how to best overcome them.

Treatment approaches include Psychodynamic Therapy for challenges across the life span, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for depression and anxiety disorders, specialized treatment for ADHD , Cogmed Working Memory Training for enhanced academic and professional performance.
I practice a holistic approach as emotions and behaviors are not only related to external environment and experiences, but are influenced by overall wellbeing. We function best when our bodies and brains are healthy and well balanced. My work with children and adolescents has informed my practice with adults as early experiences influence adult perceptions and decisions. I practice with a developmental perspective. My initial career in nursing informs my perspective to treat body, mind and spirit as a whole. Along with adult psychotherapy, I am committed to children and adolescents who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and learning difficulties.

After a decade of clinical experience, one thing I have learned is that no matter what reason brings you to therapy, the single most important factor in finding the right therapist for you is comfort and trust in the relationship, not just clinical skill. This is where you as the client get to be choosey. I'm a highly interactive therapist, as eager to offer observations and insights as I am to listen. My approach to therapy focuses on developing your strengths and effective coping tools, while helping clients build insight into underlying factors that feed problematic symptoms.

Additionally, my work includes individuals diagnosed with ADHD as well as personality disorders.
Psychotherapy has a lot to offer to people at any stage in their lives, particularly when they’re going through challenging times. Challenges arise from things that are out of our control and from trauma that we hold from past experiences. Many times, we’re not even aware of what got us to what we are experiencing in the present moment. We’re “stuck” and we don’t know why or we may not even realize we’re “stuck”.

I work with individuals and couples struggling with anxiety, ADHD , vocational, or relational issues who seek to thrive emotionally, individually, and relationally.
I empower my clients to take the next personalized and informed steps towards effective, lasting change. We'll work together to set goals based on your current struggles at the same time as we identify your strengths. We will apply these to the issues keeping you from achieving stability, contentment, and a sense of thriving in life. As your symptoms remit, the way forward feels clear. Future choices become clear decisions. As you learn coping skills in a warm, relational setting, we will alleviate your symptoms by identifying and challenging your existing thought, emotional, or behavioral patterns that no longer serve you.

I specialize in conducting neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments with children, teens and adults. You may be aware you or those you love are experiencing difficulties in school/work but it can be hard to pinpoint the cause. A comprehensive assessment allows us to identify the cause of specific problems, cognitive strengths and weaknesses and whether you have a learning disorder (discrepancies between your potential and how you're performing) or Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ( ADHD ). An assessment can also determine if you qualify for academic or testing accommodations (i.e., GMAT, MCAT, LSAT, GRE, SAT).

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
