If you are thinking about coming to therapy, chances are there is something going on that is prompting you to do so. Perhaps it is a stressful job or relationship; or you may be struggling with anxiety or depression. And, what may seem to be the "problem" on the surface could actually be related to something on a deeper level. As your therapist, I will work with you to try and understand what this deeper level is all about--all the thoughts, feelings and memories and the relationship they have to your current problem or situation.

I am a Marriage and
Family Therapist
Associate who believes in the power of emotional healing through creativity. I was inspired by my own wellness journey through chronic illness/ disability and into posttraumatic growth, to then collaborate with clients in order for them to find hope and to thrive. I am currently training to utilize EMDR in sessions, and look forward to exploring the positive shifts that can come from this work. My mission is to connect with clients, and help to instill a sense of worth, creative inspiration and joy, as well as work through the emotional stressors and traumas of the past.

My approach prioritizes a balance between practical interventions and thoughtful, focused exploration of historical issues such as
family
history and trauma and contextual issues; examining the intersection of love, work, social life, and larger social and political systems with emotional struggles.
My goal is to help you uncover your potential and lead a life that feels worth celebrating. While we can't change the past, we can work together to better understand your personal history and to resolve some of the challenges that remain. By using an approach that is specific to you and your needs, we can address long-standing emotional obstacles, behavioral patterns and perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Together, we can focus both on how to make concrete changes to provide immediate relief while also getting to the root of issues to foster long-lasting change.

If you are seeking therapy it’s because you are motivated toward alleviating emotional distress, which tells me that you are open to a new way of thinking and feeling. Often, when a person enters therapy, they are feeling overwhelmed by the stressors in their life. Some stressors may be with a life transition (work, school, death, move, changes in
family
composition, etc.), may be with intimate relationships, parenting, a loved one’s illness or disability, financial stress, community violence, housing, and so much more. Many people are unaware of how stressors in their life impact physical and emotional wellbeing.

I work primarily with clients suffering from
family
trauma (physical/emotional/sexual abuse, domestic violence, attachment, neglect, incest) to re-author their story.
Are you living with the effects of trauma or an abusive relationship? It IS possible to move beyond difficult experiences. Therapy is a safe space to tackle the symptoms instead of yourself. Through collaboration we discover strengths inside you that will bring you healing. A traumatic childhood can shape the story you have about yourself and your ability to achieve healthy connections. Unhealthy/Unwanted romantic or sexual relationships can effect how you view love and what you deserve. Let's work together to rediscover YOU, understanding your experience in a way that brings relief, moving beyond events that cause pain.

I believe that therapy is a truly personal experience. The decision to seek support is a courageous one. As your therapist, I feel the privilege of being allowed into your life in a way that you may have not allowed others to be. My approach is customized to each of my clients because each one of us is on our own personal journey. My treatments are rooted in psychodynamic, humanistic, and
family
systems theories. Based on your individual goals and needs, I may integrate mindfulness-based interventions, narrative therapy interventions, or evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive behavioral therapy.

I specialize in providing psychological services to children and adolescents. These include neuropsychological assessment and psychotherapy. Assessments can be invaluable tools that provide diagnostic clarification, treatment recommendations, and the basis for academic accommodations. The therapeutic interventions I provide to young clients can be used to address a range of common challenges including, but not limited to emotional dysregulation and behavior problems. Based on the client, therapy may take various forms and could entail a talk or play-based approach. I regularly integrate parent or
family
sessions when appropriate.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
