My clinical work focuses on treating trauma related issues, anxiety, depression , life transitions, and relationship challenges.
For many of us, the challenges we face in our daily lives can be overwhelming, no matter what form they take. We find ourselves repeating the same unhealthy patterns, yet struggle to understand why. After a while we begin to lose trust in our judgement and grow distant from our intuition, finding it difficult to identify our own guiding voice. So we learn to cope through any means possible, which often emulate ways we have learned to protect ourselves. We find ways to run from the pain and our internal shame through substance use, unhealthy relationships, and other self-destructive behaviors.

I provide a safe and sacred space to help clients wade through feelings of depression , anxiety, relationship and existential issues.
Life can be challenging and complex. At times we are faced with situations that feel overwhelming and seemingly insurmountable. Trauma can result in a loss of a sense of self and hopelessness. Engaging in therapy is a personal decision; one that requires commitment and hard work to attain life changes. I believe therapy tailored to meet individual needs can facilitate increased self-awareness leading to emotional, as well as, relational attunement and enhancement. I work with clients from diverse backgrounds, offering sensitivity to experiences of marginalization, ableism, discrimination, racism, or other 'isms encountered.

If we are able to stay closely connected to the significant others in our lives when we are feeling anxious, abandoned, and depressed , we will be able to access the strength of those relationships, or build new ones, to help ourselves heal.
I see psychotherapy as an emotionally reparative relationship. We are hurt by people, and we are healed by people as well. After over 30 years of this privilege of helping others explore the issues that have created barriers to their experience of a full and flourishing life, I have learned that human beings are amazingly resilient, and they can heal and grow and experience new beginnings. We are never limited by our past, but we sometimes need help figuring out how to accept and work through the grief and disappointments of our past before we can create new patterns of health and connection.

Are you experiencing anxiety, depression , feelings of panic, anger, a recent loss, LGBTQ+ concerns, relationship issues, work stress? I am dedicated to helping my clients, knowing that sometimes a little support can go a long way.
Navigating through life's challenges can be difficult and at times family and friends may not provide the support you are looking for. You are not alone. I believe I can help make a difference in your current situation regardless of your background or stage in life. My goal is to create a place where you can be and explore your most authentic self. Much of therapy starts with discussing challenges and current issues. However, my approach focuses on and utilizing your strengths. If we can determine what your strengths are, together we can enhance them and use them to help overcome life's current obstacles and challenges.

If you are struggling with anxiety, depression , your past, your present, or your future, you don’t have to do it alone. A shift in perspective can profoundly affect how we feel and what we are able to do, or stop doing, in our lives. Talking with someone who is both objective and 100% on your side can help you see things from a new angle and move forward in new ways, with someone who cares standing behind you.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
