I enjoy working with people who are open to looking at themselves in new and different ways. I help clients explore how their issues develop and how to make healthy choices toward change. I believe we are all influenced by our most important relationships and in therapy I help clients figure out how past relational patterns are being repeated right now. When we can understand that, we can create new
relationship
possibilities that work better. I enjoy working with graduate students and professionals in the community. I love helping clients who are involved in the arts (musicians, actors, painters, dancers).

I work with individuals,
couples
, and adolescents to explore experiences of attachment trauma, depression, anxiety, PTSD, intrusive thoughts, personal and familial substance use/addiction, compulsions, eating disorders, questions of gender and sexuality, immigration, and adoption.
My practice has primarily derived from an education in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, emphasizing close attention to your developmental history, relational patterns, inhibiting defenses and the neglected power of your inner life. I understand the vulnerability it takes to open yourself up to a therapist, and I promise to join you with patience, strength, and hope on your path to self-understanding. With collaborative and creative intention, I can help you widen your point of view, increase your tolerance for variegated emotions, integrate fragmented parts of yourself, and discover the uncharted material within you.

Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, feelings of panic, anger, a recent loss, LGBTQ+ concerns,
relationship
issues, work stress? I am dedicated to helping my clients, knowing that sometimes a little support can go a long way.
Navigating through life's challenges can be difficult and at times family and friends may not provide the support you are looking for. You are not alone. I believe I can help make a difference in your current situation regardless of your background or stage in life. My goal is to create a place where you can be and explore your most authentic self. Much of therapy starts with discussing challenges and current issues. However, my approach focuses on and utilizing your strengths. If we can determine what your strengths are, together we can enhance them and use them to help overcome life's current obstacles and challenges.

I'm qualified to help with a variety of challenges; however, I specialize in helping adults,
couples
, and families work through trauma and improve communication, boundaries, & authenticity to create lasting change.
Are you feeling lost? Out of control, burned out, stuck, or like an imposter? Are you or your loved ones repeating behaviors, relationships, or situations, and wishing you could break the cycle? Maybe little things feel more stressful than usual. Sometimes, we aren't sure what causes our distress, but we can sense we're not reaching our potential for health, happiness, or success. Even when we know the cause, change can still feel impossible. That's where I come in. My job is not to judge you; it's to listen, help you understand the root causes of your difficulties, and teach you practical tools to help change your life.

Are you living with the effects of trauma or an abusive
relationship
? It IS possible to move beyond difficult experiences. Therapy is a safe space to tackle the symptoms instead of yourself. Through collaboration we discover strengths inside you that will bring you healing. A traumatic childhood can shape the story you have about yourself and your ability to achieve healthy connections. Unhealthy/Unwanted romantic or sexual relationships can effect how you view love and what you deserve. Let's work together to rediscover YOU, understanding your experience in a way that brings relief, moving beyond events that cause pain.

Our ideal client is an individual, couple or organization that is interested in some sort of transformation and needs an experienced facilitator and
partner
in that change. I have worked as a therapist for over 35 years and a business consultant for over 25 years. I have two master degrees and one doctorate degree in counseling and clinical psychology. More importantly, however, I have invested in my own personal growth, after all, the emotional maturity of the therapist/consultant is the most important attribute they can have.

I work with individuals of all cultures age 13+ who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, family/
relationship
issues, and self-esteem issues, among other concerns.
When we think of art, we typically think of paintings, films, and music. But what about living life? Ancient Greek philosophers believed that living life is an art. They also thought that, with practice, we can learn to be better artists. I believe that to live well, to navigate the challenges and struggles of life in a way that is authentic to who we are and who we want to be, would be nothing short of creating a masterpiece. Just like there is no one right way to create art, there is no one right way to live life. I believe therapy is a collaborative process that aims to create art through the life we live.

At the core of the human experience are questions. Who am I? Who am I in relevance to others? We live our lives as an expression of that narrative. Research shows that the most important predictor of success in therapy is the quality of the
relationship
between therapist & client.
Life can get real heavy real quick. I invite you to schedule time out of your week to cater to your emotional/mental/spiritual well being. How can you love others, if you were never taught to love yourself? How do you stop judging the people in your life, if you hold yourself to the highest of standards? It all starts with YOU. Everyone who crosses our path in life is simply a mirror for the things that we need to heal within. I will help you to get in touch with your intuition/inner-knowing, and learn how to mindfully respond v.s. impulsively react.

Understanding the brain-body connection can be helpful in treating a variety of mental health concerns such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and
relationship
issues. That feeling of tightness in your chest when you feel anxious or a sense of calm when you feel safe are bodily sensations that affect how we feel, think, and behave. I combine brain-body techniques, that focus on trauma held in the body, with talk therapy to gently calm, repair, and help regulate the nervous system. Today we know that combining these two approaches can address both the emotional and physical components of many mental health issues.

Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
