Providing a secure and trusting environment is extremely important to me so that you will feel safe in the therapeutic
relationship
.
Let me help you be as successful in your relationships as you are in other areas of your life. This is one of the greatest challenges we will ever face - to achieve intimacy and have self-understanding. I sincerely believe (and see!) the effectiveness of therapy and I love guiding you from trauma to transformation! I appreciate how hard it may be to seek counseling, and, I greatly respect my clients' willingness to sort through the difficulties in their lives in order to develop better insight and achieve the skills to create long-lasting change.

This work may begin with individual therapy, or it may feel more appropriate to start with a
partner
or your family.
I don't know what brings you, but I know that it can take a lot of courage to reach out for support. Therapy is a powerful statement to yourself that you, your
relationship
and your family matters. I have experience working with client's from diverse backgrounds and life stages. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, and perinatal mental health. I work with individuals and
couples
dealing with the effects of abuse and neglect, addiction (of self or loved one), cancer diagnosis and treatment, breaking intergenerational family patterns, shame, single incidence and complex trauma, and systems of oppression.

Please get in touch with me if you seek a warm, inviting, and nonjudgmental therapist to accompany you, your
relationship
, or your family on a journey of insight, healing, and change.
Are you driven, hard-working, and dedicated - doing "all the things," but "something" is still missing? Is it hard to express your needs? Do you struggle with boundaries? Is life passing you by? Perhaps, you've been cycling through toxic
relationship
patterns, chasing a false self, or compulsively grasping for professional success. Sometimes you have no idea why you're feeling depressed, anxious, frustrated, or dissociated. Other times, you know the source of your pain but need the support of a professional to help you work through past wounds to heal, live fully, and connect authentically with yourself and those you love.

Pain hurts and is often what brings us into therapy. Buried in the hurt is a small seed of a hope for change. As your therapist, I see you as a whole and complex person and not just your "problems." As safety and trust are created between us, therapy and the therapeutic
relationship
can be a vehicle for change and healing. The unique
relationship
we'll build will provide new ways of being and relating out in the world and within you.

I have over 15 years of clinical experience working with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, life transitions, intimacy and
relationship
issues, chronic stress, grief and loss, and perinatal issues.
My practice is dedicated to helping clients restore a sense of well-being, connection, and purpose in their lives. I work with adult individuals and adolescents throughout California, and my style is collaborative, warm, and direct. I believe in the healing power of interconnection, and consider respect, communication, and acceptance to be foundational in the work that I do. Together we can develop skills to reduce anxiety and overwhelm, heal trauma, cultivate movement in the areas of life that feel stagnant, and uncover old behavior or thought patterns that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling life.

I work with individuals,
couples
, and families. Therapy is an effective way to identify emotional and psychological 'blind spots'. Discovery of blind spots enables clients to make real their vision of happiness and healthy living. Depression, addiction, trauma,
relationship
problems, and more may often be explained in terms of maladaptive responses to suffering. I work with clients to explore their relationships, developmental history, and willingness to change. Psychological, emotional, and physical engagement in the world are strongly encouraged.

People seek therapy with me for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is about something specific like a
relationship
problem, eating disorder, parenting issue, or many other human dilemmas. At other times it is because of general feelings of depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating or dissatisfaction at work or in their relationships. We can talk on the phone to determine what you need and then I will work closely with you to determine the best course of therapy.

Depressed & anxious adults who are self-critical and self-shaming and
couples
who bicker and get entangled easily are the populations I serve. Childhood roots of these patterns are explored, while clients learn to replace criticism and shame with kindness. Clients learn to "sit still" with emotions, rather than avoiding uncomfortable feelings through compulsive, "busy", or destructive behaviors. This process assists clients in reducing depression and anxiety, while increasing self-confidence, assertiveness, creativity, and tolerance for intimacy.
Couples
learn to communicate feelings and needs without using attacking words, and learn how to dis-entangle from eachother after "buttons" have been pushed.

Whether you'd like to work through some current stumbling blocks that seem to keep you from thriving, or explore deeper patterns that you've developed from earlier childhood experiences, I am here every step of the way. Anger, shame, anxiety, depression, and perfectionism are emotions and traits that can be caused by trauma. Unresolved trauma can negatively affect our current relationships and family dynamics. My goal as a therapist is to collaborate with you in order to manage trauma-related symptoms and reach a more meaningful state. I utilize a client-centered approach in order to create a safe space for my clients to process unresolved feelings/reactions. Forming a meaningful connection allows us to create a space that welcomes vulnerability, and the therapeutic
relationship
is just as important as the therapeutic modality.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
