I have experience working with individuals, children , family and couples with an emphasis on the family system and how we relate to others through a multigenerational lens.
I am not accepting new clients at this time. Please feel free to reach out at a later date to inquire about openings. As a therapist my job is to create a safe space for one to gain greater self-awareness in order to achieve personal goals. Whether we are processing past trauma, exploring family history, or learning mindfulness skills I am here to support you along the way. I tell my clients that my role as a therapist is to hold up a hypothetical mirror and allow space for reflection so that they can truly see their own strengths and develop tools in areas where they feel are lacking.

My background working with children and their families from preschool to high as an art teacher, mindfulness educator and therapist has provided me with a broad range of modalities that aid clients' nonverbal expression and innate creativity.
I believe that all human beings have the capacity to realize their full potential and to gain insight into life’s difficulties. I tailor my approach based on each unique person's needs and often utilize story-telling, dreams and archetypes as ways to make meaning of significant events. I support individuals in strengthening existing coping skills, developing new methods of support, and identifying patterns and themes in a safe, empathic space.

Whatever you're facing, my goal is to work with you to find unique strengths and creative solutions that allow you to thrive in the midst of change.

I am known for my work with children and adolescents.
I was a middle school teacher for ten years. I enjoyed working with children and adolescents more than I did grading papers. I became a psychologist to help children and their families live healthier, more productive lives. I approach psychotherapy first from the perspective that insight into oneself provides then the power to choose and to change. If you don't understand what is going on, you are unlikely to make changes. Secondly, the power to change is enhanced by learning and applying better coping skills. Insight and tools provide a growth experience.

Because I have raised three children of my own to successful adulthood (and a host of foster and other children ).
After almost 40 years as a therapist I still find working with adolescents and adults, exciting and challenging. Each person brings their unique issues to therapy and together we craft a way to move towards a positive solution. Therapy is a way to challenge yourself, reinvent and rediscover yourself. It is hard work and satisfying when you move towards accomplishing your personal goals.

I have spent many years working with children and families helping them overcome typical as well as unexpected obstacles.
Knowing that therapy is a delicate process, my approach is to work collaboratively by providing you with support while challenging you to grow. Our collaboration begins with getting to know the facets that make you who you are. This allows me to assess how your strengths can help you with personal growth. My intent is to be with you on your journey to become stronger and more balanced. I draw from multiple orientations to find an approach that best fits you.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
