I utilize an integrative model of therapy that’s primarily composed of attachment-based therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness techniques and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
I love my work supporting people in creating the life they want. I have an extensive background in helping patients work through eating disorders, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, suicidality, self-harm and complex trauma. I use a direct, strength-based approach and evidence based interventions- it’s very important to me that therapy feels supportive and provides results. The modalities I utilize to treat eating disorders include CBT, Family Based Therapy, and Adolescent Focused Therapy.

I bring my passion for using words and inquiry to cultivate insight, growth, and transformation to our shared conversations, which allows us to map a path toward healing utilizing the strengths you have naturally developed throughout your life. My clients are smart and resourceful individuals. While their resilience may have resulted in successes, they find themselves overwhelmed by stress, worry and hopelessness, struggling with transitions, challenges in relationships, identity, and an injured sense of self.

You are here for that sense of belonging & connection, especially when multiple global crises have left communities hopeless, and in a constant state of vigilance. While some anxiety/depression is a normal response to the hyper-violence we are facing as a collective (on screens or in reality), it can feel extremely overwhelming to experience this every day, on top of expectations from work, family, and other relationships. As a child of the Lao Isaan/Southeast Asian diaspora, my passion is working with fellow children of refugee/immigrant diasporas to feel seen + heard + validated through an anti-oppressive framework.

Are you feeling lost? Like you are stuck, and you do not see a way forward? It is a sinking feeling - but you are not alone. We all know what it feels like to be stuck. To face challenges, problems, and adversity. We feel alone and do not know how to find our way out. All the stress and uncertainty make it hard to sleep. It is impossible to focus at work, get things done, and our to-do list keeps getting longer and longer. Feeling stuck often means we feel overwhelmed and do not even know where to start.

You never asked for this, but, then again, neither did they. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your family, or the child in your life, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and walk through this with you.

Part of the work of therapy is to strengthen our belief that a future can exist for us, beyond the one we're able to grasp in the present moment. The fact that you're browsing through these profiles tells me that you may be considering taking the chance to see how things could feel different in your own life, better even! That reflects a powerful sense of inner-caring. Therapy can be used to clarify and untangle complex thoughts, feelings, behaviors, sensory cues, fears, and desires. This increased self-awareness can provide the foundation for taking steps in new and enlivening directions.

Trauma, anxiety, and addiction can make you feel stuck. The most important step towards healing is to address the unresolved emotion inside you. Healing requires feelings. Acceptance slowly dissolves pain. When we function from the fear and scarring of our trauma, the cycles continue until we learn how to transmute that energy into love. I apply a Holistic approach that integrates physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual forms of well-being, addressing the “whole” self. Through a holistic framework tailored to your unique needs, the goal is to support you develop a deeper understanding of the self on all these levels.

I believe that all human beings have the capacity to realize their full potential and to gain insight into life’s difficulties. I tailor my approach based on each unique person's needs and often utilize story-telling, dreams and archetypes as ways to make meaning of significant events. I support individuals in strengthening existing coping skills, developing new methods of support, and identifying patterns and themes in a safe, empathic space.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
