I specialize in conducting neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments with children, teens and adults. You may be aware you or those you love are experiencing difficulties in school/work but it can be hard to pinpoint the cause. A comprehensive assessment allows us to identify the cause of specific problems, cognitive strengths and weaknesses and whether you have a learning disorder (discrepancies between your potential and how you're performing) or Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (
ADHD
). An assessment can also determine if you qualify for academic or testing accommodations (i.e., GMAT, MCAT, LSAT, GRE, SAT).

Do past traumas trigger you? Are you suffering with a chronic disease (e.g., pain, fibromyalgia, diabetes, obesity)? And are any of these health issues making you feel chronically stressed and/or depressed? Do you think you have
ADHD
because you can’t focus and feel so overwhelmed? If so, therapy can help. When trauma occurs, our minds often create a defense like avoidance to protect us from danger. While avoiding trauma is adaptive at first, over time, suppressing our emotions leads to our bodies rebelling which manifests as physical illnesses such as migraines, panic attacks, obesity, diabetes, etc.

Seeking help amidst the sea of therapists out there is overwhelming to say the least, and one's mental health is so personal, it is hard to know who can help. Psychotherapy is a collaboration in pursuit of your growth and development. I hope to provide a safe and private space where you feel comfortable to talk about the matters of the heart that plague you. I believe you deserve nothing less than a respectful and ethical relationship where you can delve into the darker spaces inside that house some of your deepest pains and heartbreak.

Imagine a ghost who is haunting a person when they are most vulnerable to take control of them. This is the way trauma shows up in our lives. It slowly reveals itself and every encounter is scarier than the previous. Furthermore, no one else can validate this experience because they cannot see the ghost at first, which leads the person to feeling alone, isolated, and vulnerable. I can come along side with you as you overcome this ghost. You can overcome your trauma in therapy with a safe and supportive environment to take on whatever it is that is haunting you.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
