I have extensive experience in
family
systems, cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapies.
It is my firm belief that people do their best with the situations life hands them. My goal as a therapist is to help people work through their stuck places, let go of old behaviors that helped them survive in the past but are no longer useful, and learn new behaviors that will contribute to greater enjoyment and connection in their lives. I see myself as an active guide in this process, and I am enriched by seeing people learn to accept themselves and others, and thus live the fullest and most satisfying life possible.

Life can feel impossible to avoid struggling and we often don't feel we have the skills to cope successfully through. Unfortunately, sometimes we don't have all the resources we need for a given situation. Parts of us take on desperate roles trying to help us to survive. This might look like anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, and relationship/
family
issues. I aim to help you process unresolved issues and feelings and find solutions.

My work is informed by transpersonal and psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, and Internal
Family
Systems.
I approach psychotherapy from a whole-person perspective and I believe therapy, along with other practices, can help us awaken to a life of meaning. In therapy I will help you identify the source of your longing to be whole, and together, we will move closer to that source, so you become re-sourced. Together we will explore your innate natural cycles and help you align to your own rhythm, so that you might meet depletion with rest and energy with creativity.

Mental health challenges are due to the aftereffects of traumatic experiences. Trauma can place a strain on your
family
, work, relationships, and even cause issues with self-worth. I specialize in trauma therapy along with treating personality disorders, depression, mood disorders, anxiety, and addiction. All these disorders can look different from person to person, and that is where our therapeutic journey of empowerment and self-exploration begins. I concentrate on creating a safe space of growth and self-discovery through unconditional positive regard, emotional regulation, and guided activities.

I work well with tweens (12-14) and teens (14-18) and am comfortable working with the
family
as a whole, to resolve issues such as curfew, chores and 'general attitude' or with just the teen to offer a place for the venting of feelings and sorting out the many challenges and changes facing teens.
I have been a licensed therapist since 2004. I work primarily with adolescents and their families, as well as with adults. I have a great deal of experience working with teens and their families around issues such as chore compliance, school refusal, and helping teens begin the process of picking and apllying for college.

We will be a good fit if you are looking for someone to roll up their sleeves, be with you and whatever
family
members or partners are relevant.
How come you have reached out for therapy now? I begin sessions by focusing on the here and now and filling in the past as needed. I help individuals struggling to create relationships that are fulfilling enough. I work with parents, teens, couples and individuals depending on the problems that are present. Especially now, people are struggling to be effective in the workplace or school and manage the ensuing challenges and losses. If you are frustrated and change is evading you, reach out for a free consult. My style is warm, pragmatic and grounded in meeting you where you are hurting most to cultivate change.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
