Is your teen or young adult feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, school stress, or the transition to college? As a parent, watching them struggle can be heart-wrenching—whether it’s a younger teen navigating social pressures or a college student grappling with independence. I specialize in helping teens and young adults overcome anxiety, heal from trauma, and adjust to major life transitions. I offer culturally sensitive support, particularly for South Asian and Asian families, where balancing family values, with growing personal identity and need for independence can create unique stressors. I understand.

As an Asian American therapist, I have the lived experience and have helped many clients navigate the complexities of immigration, acculturation, and intergenerational dynamics.
My expertise lies in helping people manage anxiety, relationship dynamics (with romantic partners, family or friends), depression, self-esteem issues, professional fulfillment, and existential well-being. You may have been so focused on achieving external goals that you haven't had the time to address your emotions or past events and it feels like you can't avoid them anymore. Together, we would navigate through the experiences that have been difficult to sort through on your own and have left you spiraling or feeling stuck.

As an Asian-American with extensive experience living overseas, I also specialize in issues related to intercultural issues, cross-cultural adjustment, burnout, identity formation, spirituality, and grief/loss.
Many of us appear to be functioning well in life, but in reality feel like imposters, often stressed and unsatisfied in our lives and relationships. I foster the discovery of genuine peace and fulfillment through "undoing aloneness," helping clients embrace their best and worst selves, and unearthing a more self-compassionate and authentic way of being. My clients are typically individuals, seeking treatment for anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, and a wide variety of relational issues.

Are you struggling with intimacy or sexual concerns and not sure how to improve the situation? Sex therapy is a form of therapy intended to help individuals and couples resolve sexual difficulties, such as performance anxiety or relationship problems. It’s normal for clients to feel anxious when seeing a sex therapist, especially for the first time. Many people have trouble talking about sex at all, so discussing it with me as a stranger may feel awkward. I provide a safe space in exploring your sexual concerns, reducing the pain, and reaching desirable goals. I am one of the few Asian American AASECT certified therapists across US.

I'm a therapist who specializes in supporting young adults, Asian Americans, and caregivers through struggles with self-esteem, identity, burn-out, and relationship strain.
For the longest time, maybe you've taken pride in the fact that you've been able to prove to others and to yourself that you could overcome whatever obstacles were thrown your way. More than just a source of pride, being able to overcome obstacles thrown your way has helped you to survive up until this point. At the same time, a part of you has felt exhausted from this constant push to persist; exhausted from being as independent as you've become so accustomed to being. You wish others took notice of this more. You're not sure they'd still stick around at all if you were less independent. It's a painful possibility to even consider.

Sometimes life’s events can be overwhelming, making everyday activities and incidents even more difficult to handle. These experiences can lead to sadness, anxiety, insecurity, feelings of isolation, and even an immense feeling of loss or being lost. It is in these moments that having a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to talk to someone can be the most helpful. As a therapist, I provide a space where we can work collaboratively to reflect and gain insight on these cycles, where they come from and how they impact our choices and behaviors to make healthy and sustainable changes in our lives.

Do you feel misunderstood and confused about who you are? Or is your child struggling but you're uncertain of how to support them through their various life transitions? Unspoken, unprocessed, and negative thoughts can become heavy to carry. We live in a busy, noisy, and messy world and it can feel overwhelming to sort through and untangle the unwanted thoughts in our minds.

Asian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

A culturally sensitive therapist would be respectful and considerate of different groups, with regard to race, sexual orientation, gender, and other factors that are important to an individual. These considerations can help a client feel understood as well as validated. While some people think highlighting race could promote stereotypes and bias, more understanding and knowledge about cultural differences is a positive for a healthy therapeutic alliance.

How can I recognize an effective Asian therapist?

You can discern a lot by asking how familiar the potential therapist is with different cultures, as well as asking how they might address issues related to identity, values, and beliefs. Also inquire about their education, as well as any particular training they may have completed, such as cultural sensitivity or diversity and inclusion programs.

What if the therapist does not have my exact background?

The therapist may not share a client’s exact background, but the therapist may have plenty of hands-on experience as well as the sensitivity needed for therapeutic progress. Their sensitivity to different populations will help the client feel accepted and comfortable in sharing their concerns and difficulties.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Asian clients?

A therapist with an Asian background may have experience within their community, as well as broader cultural sensitivity. Ask the potential therapist whether they've worked with individuals who share your background. If they have not worked with similar clients, they may well know someone who has such experience.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Asian therapists?

The directory of Asian therapists includes professionals who have shared their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason; also, when the number of therapists identified as Asian is limited, the directory will also show therapists with comprehensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
