I have extensive experience and expertise working with depression and anxiety, terminal and chronic illness (for both the patients and caregivers), LGBTQ issues, and significant life transitions such as retirement, midlife crisis, bereavement, marriage, divorce, and career issues.
My style as a therapist is warm, engaged, conversational, and collaborative. I use a variety of clinically sound therapeutic techniques that are holistically oriented and effective. I believe it's necessary and important to understand the meaning we make of things and to pay close attention to the stories we tell ourselves. Shifting our perception opens up the solutions and possibilities that may have been there all along, but we were in too much pain to see. When emotional pain is relieved, I believe our capacity for healing grows and we have renewed vitality, a sense of peace, and greater clarity.

Anxiety, depression , life transitions, relationship issues, lasting effects of past trauma, and other sources of upset can be stressful and challenging to handle. Choosing therapy can be an important step in support of relief, healing, and reaching goals. In therapy, problems and challenges can be re-framed as opportunities for improved self-care, reflection, positive action, learning and growth. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, the Gottman Method for Couples, Mindfulness Techniques, current research on habit formation, as well as many other relevant and helpful tools to assist you in reaching your goals.

My clients come to me when they're experiencing emotional and/or mental distress and just want the pain to stop...now. They are sleep-deprived (or the opposite), stressed over college, depressed about work, angry or indifferent to everyone, anxious, frustrated by everything! Their stomachs hurt and heads ache. The problems may stem from unmet needs (love, belonging, self-esteem), various issues (anxiety, addiction, depression , trauma, chronic pain) or not meeting personal or life goals. While change can feel difficult and scary, you can learn powerful, safe ways through as you progress to becoming the person you truly want to be.

I help folks get their life back on track! Therapy is not always a walk in the park. In fact, it can even be downright painful to look at things you would rather avoid. However, on the other side of these issues, one can find some relative peace and comfort, and I am willing to be there with you for every step of the journey. Maybe you feel anxious, stuck, isolated, depressed , or down. Are your relationships in the ditch? Do you find making new friends a bit tricky? Perhaps, you drink or do drugs more than you would like to help cope. You have tried to get back on track, but nothing is working. That's where I come in!

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
