Relationships are hard. Maybe you feel ignored and unseen, so you get angry, say things you regret, storm out of the room, or give the cold shoulder. Or maybe it was an affair or an addiction. Stuck in the same fights, feeling defeated, alone, and disappointed, you wonder, “how did we get here?” You want to stay with your
partner
, but you are not sure how...the way things are going. The good news is that you do not need to walk this road alone. You do not need to sit in your
relationship
believing there is no hope. The truth is no one steps into a
relationship
or marriage with all the tools one needs to thrive!

and families confronted with a variety of issues, such as depression, anxiety, suicidality, trauma, grief and loss, stress management,

difficulties, divorce, and life transitions.
Sometimes the challenges we face in life can feel overwhelming and impossible to overcome, and it is my belief that through authentic human connection, compassion and unconditional positive regard one can open up new doors of self-discovery that will allow them to find meaning, purpose and healing. It is my goal to help shine light on areas of your inner experience that will foster your ability to expand your self-awareness and make life changes. No two individuals are the same, thus I strongly believe in working with you to understand what your unique experience is like and adjust my approach to meet you where you are at.

With
couples
, I focus on strengthening communication, reducing hurt, and increasing intimacy.
All relationships are hard, intimate relationships even more so. So many unmet needs, unrecognized wants, can make you feel lost and alone. You just can't keep going like this! The fights are ugly, or they don't happen at all. Living at the speed of life, you have drifted apart and don't know how to bring it back together. Maybe it is just feeling disconnected, maybe it was an affair. You just know that you need help to make it better, to make it what you had dreamed it would be. The good news is that you don't have to do it alone. Tenderness and passion are just around the corner!

Being in a first responder or military home is a challenge most cannot fathom. The way the job impacts you, your relationships, your life. This is not just a job for you, it is a lifestyle. From shiftwork to last minute schedule changes, to feeling alone and like no one will get what you are going through. Maybe it is a lack of balance in your life now. Maybe it is your
relationship
taking a hit. You have to be tough, and you are tough. But being tough shouldn't be this hard, this helpless or hopeless. Being tough shouldn't change you into a person you don't want to be. There is hope. You can find meaning and joy again!

I believe that the
relationship
between me and my "special friend" facilitates growth and healing. I offer a COMPLIMENTARY FIRST SESSION to see if we can take a meaningful journey together. My goal in therapy is to help individuals develop a more positive self-image, increase self-esteem, and reach their full potential. I help the people I work with to identify their needs and increase their ability to communicate their needs and feelings to others - thereby developing more loving relationships. We all face challenges in life, some greater than others. Many of us struggle with anxiety, depression, loss,
relationship
problems, and various types of trauma. Healing the past does not mean that we get to erase our experiences, but it does mean that our past no longer gets to control our present. I consider it a privilege to help facilitate a client's journey from dysfunctional beliefs and behaviors, to healthy ways of being in the world. I believe it is important that mind, body, and spirit are all functioning as healthily as possible in order to live ones best life.

couples
, and in groups.
My approach is to create an accepting, supportive, non-judgmental partnership in order to help my clients discover their strengths, inner resources, and to achieve a deeper understanding of who they are. This work will help you to overcome or more effectively deal with such problems as anxiety, depression, anger, stress,
relationship
difficulties, life transitions, and attention deficit disorder. We work together to identify self-defeating thought patterns or unconscious defenses that might be getting in the way of your natural capacity for satisfying relationships, or the full and authentic expression of who you are.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
