Grief is so very painful. Anxiety builds. You hurt in your head, your heart, your body. It’s difficult to concentrate or remember things, make decisions. Sleeping and eating are tough which makes it challenging to function and do daily routines. You feel so alone, even when you are with people. How long does this misery last? Will it ever end? Worry and dread start to take over. It’s like you are being sucked into a hole and can’t find a way out. Can you even remember a time where you felt some calm, peace? The restlessness and irritability is just too much. You want things to slow down but they don’t. When will it stop?

Sometimes life throws a curveball that wasn't anticipated, is difficult to handle, or that just seems unfair. While some things can't be changed -- the way circumstances are experienced and the responses we make to our circumstances requires skills that can be learned and applied to improve quality of life. The things we say to ourselves when facing overwhelming circumstances, disappointment, and injustice are vitally important. Whether you contend with uninvited trauma, grief and loss , anxious or depressed moods, or challenges in significant relationships, it is important to make choices that nurture meaningful life experience.

I have worked in the area of complicated grief since 1986. This has led me to also focus on trauma, anxiety and depression. I have led many groups and workshops on the above areas for both clients and professionals. Improving self-esteem and developing communication skills are also areas of focus.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with a strong backround in extended family sytems therapy. I seek to support, strengthen, and educate clients to faciltate insight and change. I have trained and worked in this venue for over 20 years, working extensively with individuals, families, and couples. My professional practice, public schools, and college teaching experience has given me a broad base, yeilding unique strengths in helping families and adolescents, addressing women's issues, treating addiction/adult children of alcoholics, and handling issues sprecific to those in the military and others who serve our community.
