Learning to know one self is a difficult goal to achieve. People often choose to hide their true selves behind a façade, thinking “they” are invisible, protected from being exposed. By doing so, they often find themselves isolated, anxious and depressed. Sometimes they create a larger, more obvious mask to camouflage their flaws. Learning to put the façade down requires the courage to identify and honestly disclose ones feelings, this creates a trusting sense of self and an openness with others. Welcome to my practice. I have about 15 years of clinical experience and have been featured on NBC/KCAL/HLN as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

My objective for clients is to benefit from my experience as a psychotherapist, nurse, & human sexuality doctorate. Nine years ago, a client requested to speak to me while I was working as a nurse in an outpatient clinic. They confessed that under their masculine clothing, they wore feminine attire. They were contemplating self-harm as they were depressed by living incongruently. Their physician had denied them gender therapy. They eventually began attending psychotherapy with me to improve their self-acceptance. I have years of experience working with those in recovery from addictive behavior and who are aiming to rebuild their lives. I also greatly enjoy working with couples and individuals struggling with life transition issues.
