I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM) to help individuals and
couples
overcome emotional distress and trauma.
As a therapist, I often hear clients share experiences of betrayal, abandonment, rejection, and shame. These emotions can lead to a growing distance in important relationships, or a disconnect within oneself. It's understandable to feel lost and uncertain about how to move forward, like being stuck in a fog without a clear path to safety. However, I am here to guide you through this difficult terrain towards the refuge of reconnection, healing, remembering, and recovery. Together, we can work towards finding a safe haven and moving forward with renewed strength and resilience.

After working in various therapy settings, I have a broad base of experience working with adolescents,
couples
, and adults on issues such as work stress,
relationship
issues, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and personality disorders.
Life can be a wonderful joy, it just takes a bit of work. I'm Alex, and as a therapist my job is to help people do that work navigating the rough waters of life and find that joy. I was once held through that journey myself by some wonderful therapists and I love the opportunity to give back and help my own clients achieve much the same. In our work, we will establish a hopeful and compassionate environment where you can feel safe to talk about anything, from your day-to-day struggles to your deepest secrets.

You're starting a new school year, new job, or new
relationship
. Anxiety and depression is your constant companion and you can't eat or sleep. You feel sick without having any symptoms that the doctor can address. You see yourself as inadequate or a loser and will never be able to succeed. Every medication that has been tried has only made you feel worse or you recognize that you are taking too much. There has got to be a better way.

My 30+ years of experience as a psychologist and psychoanalyst, working with adults, adolescents, children and
couples
, has given me an appreciation for the complexities of human experience.
It seems that whenever, and in whatever ways we are suffering, we have become stuck in a pattern that reflects a limited sense of ourselves, having lost track of who we are meant to be. Through use of a safe and supportive therapeutic environment, together we find ways to create a greater sense of wholeness and inner freedom.

I've worked with children and individuals struggling with life stressors, trauma, anxiety, depression, family conflicts,
relationship
issues, and behavioral issues.
Congratulations on taking the first step to improving your well-being! Are you and your child feeling stressed, anxious or disconnected? Is your child struggling to find the words to express what they are experiencing? Behavior is a form of communication for children, let me help you understand what your child is trying to express. Emotional stress can have a significant impact with how we relate to others, how we manage feelings, and what we think/feel about ourselves. I am committed to help you or your child identify and heal from the negative experiences and life stressors that led you to reach out for help.

The most important aspect of any therapist-client
relationship
is building rapport, and that is my priority.
Talking about your feelings can be intimidating. It requires immense courage and vulnerability to explore emotions with a stranger. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe space to allow clients to feel willing to share their experiences, challenges, and insecurities. I offer empathy, validation, and perspective to encourage clients to be more comfortable being their genuine, authentic selves, which we all deserve. I work collaboratively with clients to overcome issues of anxiety, depression, life-stage transitions, and emotional struggles.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
