Grief is not linear. Some days it can feel heavy, sad, and extremely lonely, while other days we can feel on top of the world, and feeling like the us we were before our grief struck. Grief can feel like a rollercoaster with so many ups and downs throughout the way that are exhausting and unbearable at times, while other times we are able to have our heads above water feeling like we can take a deep breath again. All in these moments it feels like the world just keeps moving on when yours feels like it has completely stopped. You don’t have to carry it alone—there’s space here for all of it.

My approach to therapy is to do what works for my clients. Some people need to examine their past so that they can cope and move forward. While others just need to work on what is currently happening in their lives. I can help with both.

My experience is centered around BIPOC preteens, teens, foster youth, and transitional age adults who deal with managing anxiety, depression, racial stressors, life transitions, interpersonal relationships, low self-esteem, and self-doubt. Maybe you're a high-achieving, goal-driven teen, and you’ve noticed a recent shift in your mood that seems unlikely for you. Maybe you are a college student trying to balance life stressors and expectations from loved ones. Navigating big transitional stages like changing friendships, changing schools, and figuring out adulthood can be difficult.

My deep privilege is to walk beside individuals and families as they journey toward connection. Connection comes from finding hope, from experiencing authentic communication, and from identifying one's innate resources. Science shows that connection leads to lower anxiety and depression, higher trust and empathy, and consequently, higher intimacy. Lack of connection is often the source of pain that can cause addiction, infidelity, depression, anxiety, and a host of mental disorders. Connection has even been proven to improve physical symptoms. I can't wait to explore with you and to see what connection can do for your life!

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
