Taking the first step towards emotional healing can be difficult as life is full of ups and downs and sometimes we need a little help along the way. Have you been feeling anxious, depressed, hopeless, or stuck? Are you experiencing relationship issues or not sure of which direction to go in your relationship? Are you feeling disconnected from your friends/ family or yourself? Do you need help trying to understand your thoughts and feelings? Coming to therapy can be difficult and scary, but taking the first step is the most important and you will not be alone.

There are many forces mitigating against your marriage or relationship We all have vulnerabilities, sensitivities or wounds that are inevitably triggered in intimate long-term relationships. For example, for one person, it may be feeling criticized; for another, it may be not feeling adequately cared for, etc. Those sensibilities emerge and develop from woundings in family relationships with parents, siblings and important others. When triggered, vulnerabilities can at times manifest like allergies; even a small dose can trigger a reaction, a defensive or protective response.

Marriage and Family Therapists are clinicians who help others with their goals within the context of how those goals improve relationship.
My mission is to walk alongside individuals and families as they strive toward connection. I believe that connection comes from finding hope, from authentic communication, and from learning to trust one's self. Humans are wired for connection. Connection leads to lower anxiety and depression, higher trust and empathy, and consequently, higher intimacy. Lack of connection is the source of pain that can cause addiction, infidelity, depression, anxiety, and a host of mental disorders. Connection has even been proven to improve physical symptoms. I can't wait to explore with you and to see what connection can do for your life!

I am licensed in California, with over 20+ years of experience in helping individuals, couples, and families experiencing life changes, parenting challenges, family conflicts, relationship problems, or substance use issues.
believe that each of us, at one time or another, struggles with self-worth, coping with crises, interpersonal conflicts, or problematic behaviors. Depression, anxiety, and difficulty with relationships can really impair one's ability to be their best and to feel emotionally healthy and capable. When those times happen to you, it can help to have a caring therapist who understands, helps identify solutions, and doesn't judge. My style is to focus on the here and now, with practical strategies for making meaningful changes that fit you and your situation.

As a mom, spouse, friend, and professional woman you are wearing many hats, and this can become overwhelming. At times you feel overwhelmed by life and after a long day of showing up for everyone else, there is nothing left for you. Everything appears okay from the outside looking in, but you can feel yourself cracking more and more each day. You may have fooled everyone around you, but you know the truth. You feel broken and wounded by past mistakes and trauma. You find yourself isolating from friends and family and turning down invites. That feeling of loneliness and sadness has just become too difficult to stuff down anymore.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
