trauma
; relationship, parenting, and family issues; life transition and questions like "What do I really want?" and "What is important to me?" Without meaning and the chance to therapeutically practice new insights and behaviors, we may suffer unnecessarily during times of high stress,
trauma
, or in daily life. Feelings may become an overwhelming flood of dread, sorrow or numbness; thinking becomes confused, panicky, and self-critical; joy, spontaneity and self-trust may feel lost. Together we can make good use of your strengths, symptoms and external challenges. Through exploring and deepening our understanding and trust in your own inner world, dignity and liveliness may be restored even under the most challenging or enduring of circumstances, illnesses or problems.

I specialize in treating challenges related to
trauma
, relationships, and marginalized identities.
You’re tired of the inner struggles others may not understand or see. The tug-of-war within leaves you conflicted, confused, and at times hopeless things will get easier. Sometimes you worry you are “too much,” and sometimes “not enough.” You want more ease and emotional stability, instead of the familiar cycles of heightened stress and feeling shut down or numb. You hope to one day become less internally influenced by anticipated / perceived rejection, abandonment, punishment, failure, or threat.

Working from a client-centered, psychodynamic, and relational framework, my approach to therapy is rooted in principles of healing justice and
trauma
-informed care.
These are challenging times that we are living in today. For many of us, life as we have known it has changed greatly, and it can be a struggle to know how to adapt and to cope. Maybe you are discovering something new about yourself that you would like to understand better, or maybe old challenges have been coming back again. Whether you are returning to therapy or are beginning for the very first time, my ideal client is someone who wants to use therapy as a place to heal, evolve, and grow in spite of all that is happening around us. I believe there is hope to be found during this time, and it is my wish to help you discover it.

We all have work to do. We don't have to do it alone. In a safe, non-judgmental environment, I explore with my clients their dreams, artwork, relationships, and daily life experiences, to bring light and insight to blockages and barriers to their full experience and enjoyment of life. Such blockages can be past
trauma
, incorrect embedded beliefs, injured parts, and/or ingrained thought patterns and habits. Once these things are processed and/or healed, new ways forward can be nurtured.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
