I have experience working with transgender people, LGBTQIA-plus people, and folks with trauma and/or PTSD.
I provide therapy to adults, teenagers, couples and polycules, families, and other relationship configurations. I often work with BIPOC, immigrant, queer, trans, disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent people. I am here to support you as someone who also hold these identities. In these troubling times, navigating the world is exhausting. Supporting yourself is hard, and showing up for your people and your community is even more so. You may be suffering from trauma, struggling in your relationships, grappling with grief, or experiencing suicidal ideation. I have been there too, and I can give you hope.

I am a Bay Area activist fighting for transgender rights since the late 1990's.
The core of my work with trans, gender-nonconforming, and neurodivergent people addresses chronic trauma stemming from family of origin and a lifetime of social non-acceptance. I work from a humanist perspective, using empathy and kindness to recognize peoples' strengths and to support them in dealing with systemic societal oppression.

I provide affirming, supportive therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals, including transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive folks, in a safe, judgment-free space.
In survival mode day after day? Childhood trauma leaves lasting imprints on the mind and body. EMDR therapy offers a powerful way to heal. Healing from trauma isn’t just about addressing the symptoms; it’s about reclaiming your voice, your sense of safety, and your personal power.

I work with queer, transgender, and nonbinary clients just beginning to question and explore their identities, and those who have been out for years and need therapy from a clinician familiar with queer issues.
I have a particular passion for supporting queer, transgender, non-monogamous, poly, and/or kinky clients to navigate the unique pressures and challenges of family life and parenting on the margins. I am experienced in guiding clients who are ending relationships through an intentional breakup process.

I specialize in providing services for transgender, gender-expansive youth, and their families.
Life can feel overwhelming, isolating, or riddled with anxiety and depression. Perhaps things feel stuck and you are seeking a change and want more out of life. Early adulthood is a particularly challenging time. It can be difficult to challenge the perceptions of the world shaped by our families and upbringing, while maintaining the shared connections and values. It is a time to explore racial, sexual, and gender identities. A task made more complicated when layered with neurodiversity, trauma, grief, or a life circumstance that makes you feel different. Therapy can offer a sense of insight, stability, and self-acceptance.

I support LGBTQ+, gender non-binary, & transgender adults, adolescents, & couples/polycules in California.
Ready to kiki about trauma? My trauma-informed lens gives clients the opportunity to heal their trauma at the pace that their nervous systems and spirits allow to create long-term change. Since trauma happens against our will, we must heal from trauma in a way that follows our will as it strengthens through time, practice, and a healthy use of humor.

I primarily work with transgender and gender expansive adults (and some older adolescents) who are committed to building meaningful lives in the face of past traumatic stressors and a toxic political climate.
Probably most relevant to my current work is that I'm a middle-age trans person who has been out since the 1990s. It's also helpful that I happen to be a clinical psychologist trained in working with people who have experienced trauma and stress.

The way in which a person cultivates their sense of self, self-esteem, and relationships with others, can be extremely important in their path to wellness. My goal is to meet every client where they are in their journey to mental health and wellness, which means we start where you are and not where I think you should be. I believe that everyone has the capacity to become their best selves and that my work is to provide a safe, helpful, and non-judgmental, environment for those who I am working with.

My identities as a white, queer, transgender, neurodivergent, and chronically ill human inform my approach to social justice and community both in and out of the therapy space.
Hi, I'm Reid. I'm a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (150612) providing services under the licensed supervision of Elysha Martinez (LMFT 93493) at Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health. I know that feeling seen, understood, and able to find connection and community can be an incredibly powerful experience — one that informs the stories we tell about others, as much as ourselves. When we are in pain and feel alienated from others, though, it can be especially difficult to imagine alternatives. I welcome all of the sensitive, weird, and messy parts that you hold and will walk with you through the wilds of your life.

I have over 10 years of experience in serving youth and families, queer and transgender people, and activism.
I'm a queer, non-binary polyamorous affirming Asian therapist who specializes in working with LGBTQ clients. At times, the weight of the world can be overwhelming. We may grow up believing that we are not enough and that we have to be perfect. We may have inherited messages from our family or from society that puts us down, especially if we come from a marginalized identity. This can make us feel hopeless or ungrounded and we may act in ways that we aren't proud of. These narratives may also show up in the relationships we care most about.

Transgender Therapists

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
