I am accepting new clients and am offering in-person and video sessions.
Are you struggling to decide whether to stay or leave your relationship? It can be difficult to come to the kind of clarity one needs to make this decision. Is it hard to trust your gut and listen to your inner wisdom about how to move forward? Relationships can be very complex and sometimes we all need a little extra support to face these challenges and come to our best decisions.

In-person sessions in Oakland and virtual sessions for anyone in California.
You’re insightful, self-aware, yet still somehow caught in the same emotional reruns. I work with thoughtful, emotionally aware adults and couples who keep noticing the same patterns showing up in love, work, and their own inner worlds. Many of my clients are queer, trans, politically-engaged, neurodivergent, creative, analytical, or emotionally intense. You might be struggling with anxiety, shame, burnout, attachment wounds, trauma, or the aftershocks of complex relationships. You want depth, honesty, and therapy that actually goes somewhere. I offer therapy for people ready to understand themselves in a more meaningful way.

Welcome! Take a seat wherever. Many of use feel like we suffer in silence with feelings or reactions we didn't want nor asked for. Whether its a constant, nagging tightness in your chest when around other people or the desire to move and fidget becomes to overwhelming to ignore. Sometimes we can feel very "stuck" or trapped with these feelings where we see no escape. Fortunately, there are different ways of seeing, interacting, or being that can alleviate that suffering and help you live the life you want to live.

Please contact me to check if I currently have openings for teletherapy sessions.
I enjoy being a psychotherapist because it provides me the opportunity to help people resolve the issues that are causing them distress. I work with adults, children, and families, and understand that each person is a unique individual with his or her unique life circumstances, history, and social and cultural context. A goal of our work together will be to help you identify and understand the conflicts that may be causing you difficulty, and to help you overcome them. Or perhaps negative thinking patterns cause you to experience sadness, loneliness, hopelessness, fear, or other unwanted emotions.

At Mente y Alma Therapy Center, we believe healing begins when both the mind and soul are cared for. As a bilingual-bicultural clinician, I am dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive space for individuals, families, and couples. I am passionate about helping Latinx women find healing and balance while navigating the space between cultures. I understand firsthand the unique challenges that come with being the first. I work with clients to help them heal from anxiety, depression, and trauma. Therapy provides an opportunity to be completely yourself, without regard to internal or external pressures and demands. When you feel safe, you're more free to talk about change. I'll help you build upon your strengths and support you in becoming more aware of patterns that hold you back from achieving your goals. Together, we take a close look at those patterns and work towards healthier options. I believe therapy is an important investment in health and will help you create the foundation for a satisfied life.

What I believe: Relationships are unique and come in countless shapes and sizes over time. Right now, relationships are already happening and changing in your life every day. Love is available in ourselves when we choose it, and choosing love in ourselves brings more love into our relationships. Yes, all relationships shift and change, and at the same time, love can regenerate again and again in the most mysterious moments and forms if we stay open and curious.

I specialize in working with both teens and adults who feel weighed down by trauma, grief, anxiety, and the impact of difficult life transitions. My work often focuses on developmental trauma—those early experiences that shape how safe, seen, and connected we feel in the world. I draw from advanced training in Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and expressive arts therapy to support both the mind and body in healing. My approach helps clients feel more grounded, soften self-criticism, and reconnect with a deeper sense of compassion and wholeness.

I welcome all clients to meet with me via phone or video sessions.
Are you holding it together on the outside but on the inside it feels VERY different? Do you feel gripped by anxiety, self-doubt, anger, fear, or numbness? Having thoughts that you are not enough, or too much, or that you should be perfect? There is a reason this is happening. I believe change happens through compassionate accompaniment in intentionally held spaces that allow us to explore and integrate parts of ourselves that are causing inner tensions. Through an accepting and supportive environment therapy helps to regulate emotion and promote lasting change.

FAQ - About Telehealth Therapy
Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?
One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?
Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?
The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
