In Person Therapists in Oakland, CA
Many of my clients are people who have spent much of their lives moving between cultures or struggling to belong. In a complex world- therapy can be a place to slow down, teach our nervous system to experience safety, and make space for all parts of ourselves to exist. I have special interest in working with queer Christians or ex-Christians recovering from religious trauma, bicultural folks who grew up in complex or invalidating environments, as well as men who are unpacking inherited ideas of masculinity and stepping into more authentic ways of being in relationship with themselves and others.

Things haven’t felt right for a while. You’ve been pushing through your depression or stress, doing what’s expected, but inside, it’s heavy. Maybe you’re dealing with trauma or anxiety that won’t let up. Or you're burned out from personal relationships, stuck in self-doubt, or wondering why the same patterns keep repeating. You might not even know what you need. Therapy begins with not having all the answers, but with being honest about what hurts. From there, real change is possible.

I have practiced as a therapist for over twenty years and specialize in helping people integrate unresolved aspects of the past in order to live more freely in the present. Exploring adaptive strategies which used to help but have become limiting over time; meeting all parts of ourselves with curiosity and compassion; cultivating consciousness around thinking and feeling patterns; bringing attention to the body and working with the nervous system to soften areas of tension and holding - these are ways therapy can deepen insight and support ease and well being.

I work with people who face challenges that often arise in the second half of life such as, the trauma of illness & death, caring for aging parents, loss of satisfaction or sense of meaning in relationships and work, loss of a job, isolation, and loneliness. These challenges can often be baffling and carry symptoms of depression, fear and anxiety. The rational mind may understand what is going on but somehow the emotional and physical body can't always take solace in rational solutions.

I work both in-office and via telehealth.
My love of psychotherapy is rooted in deep belief of the transformative potential of individuals to heal, grow, and realize their most healthy and happy selves, and in turn to have greater capacity and freedom to change our communities and society. As a nurse practitioner I aim to work with you towards that goal. In much the same way that we are shaped by our early relationships, environment, and experiences, healing too happens in relationship. In an attuned therapeutic relationship, we are able to have different experiences and develop a greater sense of authenticity and connection to ourselves and the world around us.

It can feel like there are so many demands on the modern human that we have no space to slow down and listen our quiet yet wise inner voice. This can result in surprise feelings of anxiety, depression, and overwhelm that have us seeking any means of relief. Whether it be tuning out on social media, overindulging in substances from food to drugs, or creating an over-stuffed social calendar, relief is only temporary. I'm here to help find sustainable ways to live at your own pace, and to help increase contact with your innate wisdom.

Becoming a parent, getting married, or going through a divorce can shake you to your core—parts of you feel like they’re disappearing, and other parts are showing up for the very first time. These transitions often stir up old attachment wounds and painful questions: Am I enough? Will I get this right? Whether you're adjusting to life with a baby, navigating partnership struggles, or sitting with the heartbreak or relief of a breakup, you're not alone. I can’t take away the pain—but I will walk with you through it, holding space for the grief, the growth, and everything in between.

We all want to be understood, accepted and loved; this can only happen through honest communication. Making the decision to seek help for you or your family can be part of that communication. I provide a safe space to explore, discuss and process important issues that affect the lives of you and your family members. I have an eclectic approach to providing psychotherapy. As one size does not fit all, therapy cannot be approached in the same way for everyone. It must be tailored to the specific needs, issues and problems that each person uniquely presents.

I enjoy working with adults who are interested in becoming more conscious. We all have reactions to things but there are some reactions or triggers that cause emotional pain. These triggers are usually a leftover piece of unprocessed pain. Unless they are understood and healed, they'll keep coming up. I enjoy working with clients who are motivated and curious about this process. The result is more peace of mind and a more fulfilling relationship with oneself and others.
