I specialize in helping people with depression, anxiety, and past trauma. There are many people that try to sell a cure all or a quick fix for mental health and happiness. As a therapist, it's my mission to avoid gimmicks and rely on proven and well established methods for change. True self-care is not simply salt baths and distractions, but building a life that you don't regularly need to escape from in the first place. I enjoy working with people who want to get closer to the truth of who they are, wish to learn how to set boundaries with ongoing worry, reflect on relationships, and who crave authentic and meaningful change.

Hi! My name is Johanna Fernandez and I'm a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist based in California. I believe in allowing my clients to guide me while teaching them how to ride the waves of life's difficulties. I believe everyone has the answers they are looking for within themselves; I am only a sounding board designed to guide, teach, and empower. I believe there is no "one size fits all" for therapy. I love using different interventions from different approaches depending on the person sitting in front of me. In meeting with me, we can create the best plan suited for you and your needs.

Whether it be substance abuse, grief, trauma, depression, anxiety, anger or something else, I believe that with the right tools we can grow from these experiences and learn to cope. I strongly believe that everyone wants, can, and has the right, to be a healthy, happy individual who can grow and be successful. However, sometimes life gives us circumstances or unexpected events that make us feel this goal is out of our reach.

I have been a therapist for over 25 years. I work with individual, however, I specialize with couples and families. Issues are a part of life, however, they don’t have to run our life. Being proactive rather than reactive is an important aspect in empowering ourselves to look at things that feel so scary. Our fears can magnify the reality of a situation to where we feel like we are about to climb Mt. Everest rather than going up a hill.

At the center of the human experience lie the stories we tell about ourselves and those we tell about others. Stories have the power to move us in remarkable ways. They teach us about life and love and show us how joy and pain coexist. They remind us of the resiliency we possess to overcome suffering. They can help us keep our faith, or they can evoke fear. Stories may leave our minds but overstay their welcome in our bodies. Sometimes, detaching from the stories that no longer serve us feels impossible, as they often keep us somehow safe.
