I specialize in helping people through significant life transitions, such as early childhood transitions, becoming a parent, entering or leaving College, and adjusting to a new culture.
I work towards developing a relationship with you where you can feel safe to express your feelings, talk about your concerns and think creatively about old patterns and past worries that may be holding you back from living life more fully. I strive to create a therapeutic environment where you will gain more awareness and learn to live in a creative and playful manner while developing the capacity to know and realistically meet your own needs. You will find me to be warm, interested, creative, and curious therapist.

As an Asian American immigrant who arrived in the United States at the age of five, I carry the lived experience of navigating life across cultures. This perspective has profoundly shaped both my identity and my approach as a therapist. I understand that who we are is formed not only by what is seen but also by the quiet, unseen forces that shape our sense of belonging and self. My therapeutic presence is grounded in empathy, openness, and collaboration. I work to create a space where you can show up exactly as you are without judgment and where healing begins through honest, connected exploration.

I work with adults, children, and adolescents who struggle in unique ways with their sense of self, their relationships with others, and the regulation of their emotions.
My approach is psychodynamic, relational, collaborative, and trauma informed. I hold that we do not exist in a vacuum - that since conception, we have been shaped by family systems, cultural norms, and systems of oppression. My work is depth oriented, aiming to treat your symptoms at their root, giving way to long lasting psychological change.

My approach to counseling begins with careful listening to understand your unique situation and personal goals. I will listen without judging you or rushing to a quick fix that might not be applicable for your specific situation. Many of my clients enter counseling feeling alone or overwhelmed by feelings of sadness, anxiety, anger, or stress. They may feel stuck in painful relationships that aren't working, or stuck with intense feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, dread, or inner pain. My treatment approach is gentle, educational, and experiential.

Whether your child or you are struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, or trauma, I know how difficult it is when no one understands why you feel the way you do – not even yourself.
While I work with clients of all ages, I have a lot of experience in – and particularly enjoy working with – school-aged children, teens, parents, and families. I primarily work from a psychodynamic, attachment-based, and relational framework, but I also tailor my approach to fit the unique personality and needs of each of my clients.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults.
A question I often get asked is, “What do you mean by, ‘meeting your clients where they are at’?” In my work of helping people, I strive to subscribe to a compassionate and collaborative approach. This means that the client is part of their own treatment team. Thus, meeting the client where they’re at means embracing a variety of therapeutic interventions.

In a society that expects us to be constantly producing, connecting, and consuming, it is hard to take stock of the inherent complexities in our everyday lives, whether we are children, teens or adults.
I view therapy as a collaborative relationship between both parties, where therapist and client are impacted and changed by the experience. I see humor, honesty and directness as essential to therapy with any age group/family constellation, bringing these aspects of myself into my work with you or your child.

I work with people who feel weighed down, disconnected, overwhelmed, or constantly on edge – experiences often labeled as depression or anxiety, but that usually make sense in the context of what you’ve lived through. Many of the people I support are navigating grief, identity shifts, relationship strain, burnout, caregiving stress, or major life transitions. I approach this work from a trauma-informed lens, holding awareness of how relational, generational, and other forms of trauma may be shaping your nervous system and self-perception. Your felt sense of safety in our relationship is always central.

Play therapy provides children with a safe environment where they can express feelings too complex to convey verbally.
While all people experience challenges throughout life, we each suffer in different ways and, as a result, develop a unique style of dealing with stress. During difficult times, ways of coping that once worked often lose their effectiveness. Even after identifying a problem or unhealthy pattern, it may be difficult to resolve the issue without the necessary support. Therapy involves an increased curiosity toward one's emotional experience, and over time, awareness of how feelings relate to behavior. This allows for a deeper understanding of who we are and can help us approach problems and conflicts in healthier ways.

FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviors change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
