As a second-generation
Asian
American, I have an understanding and experience in providing therapy to those raised by immigrant parents.
Are you feeling stressed? Feeling dissatisfied with your life or work? Or are you a parent who is worried about your child? Maybe there’s been a change, they’re not doing as well as you know they could. Perhaps you’ve observed a worrisome pattern of increased stress and anxiety in them...but they won’t talk to you like they used to. I have extensive experience working with adults, children, teens and families experiencing anxiety, depression, and stress. Additionally, I have experience in working with people diagnosed with ADHD, as they often need support for feelings of inadequacy, regret, anxiety, and depression.

Relationships can change and heal us, especially the relationship that we have with ourselves. I'm here to facilitate a space for healing and to support you in finding your way back to yourself again. There's an innate wisdom deep within that can get often get blocked by traumatic life experiences, negative thought patterns, and unhealthy relationships that no longer serve you. I would be honored to help you find sacred space, connection, and healing. I work with all who seek healing, but work especially well those who identify as
Asian
American, BIPOC, adult children of immigrants and refugees, and new parents.

I am an
Asian
American mindfulness practitioner who specializes in issues of acculturation, racial identity, intersectionality, stress, anxiety, perfectionism, communication, and loving self-kindness.
You've come here because you're lost, lonely, confused or in pain. Perhaps you've done everything the "right way" but that hasn't led to happiness. You want things to change, but you don't know how, or where, to start. I believe I can help you, as I've helped many others, including myself. Therapy can be a radical, healing experience, and I attend my own therapy sessions on a regular basis. In our work together, you can unpack and witness your whole self in a safe, collaborative, and empathic way.

I've enjoyed working with BIPOC, and as a child of Vietnamese refugees, I have particular insight into the
Asian
-American experience.
I'm a therapist of color creating a space for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) as it may often feel like traditional spaces weren’t created with you in mind…including therapeutic spaces. There are biases that lean toward values that aren't congruent with yours, which makes it difficult to be seen and heard for all of your intersectional identities. Healing can occur in myriad ways: through community, education, personal expression, or therapy. The therapy space I've created is free of judgement and oppressive values.

Have you struggled to find someone who can understand your unique culturally diverse story?
Asian
American, third culture, the misfit who hasn't belonged? I welcome your complexity.
Are you distracted, all over the place, afraid of sabatoging your life, at a crucial time in which you need to be performing at your best? As time goes on has crisis hit? As a woman, have you prided yourself on your intelligence, and indepedence, but find you are overcatering to the lives and needs of others rather than your own? Maybe it is anxiety-related health symptoms, eating too much or too little, overworking or other types of avoidance. Maybe you're barely getting through your day. You've done therapy before, but you're looking for a process that can go deeper so you can get to better, empowered place in yourself.

I am an
Asian
American therapist of color, and I'd love to help you! I create a safe space where you can begin to explore the possibility of positive change.
Do you move between culturally different worlds on a regular basis? Perhaps you feel that you don't completely fit in, that your identity is mixed or "in between," and you long to say what you've never before dared to say. Maybe you missed a warm, nurturing upbringing because you were taught to focus on achievement at the expense of social and emotional needs. Is this a legacy you wish to accept for yourself or your children? As the American-born child of Filipino immigrants, these issues resonate deeply with me, and I can help if you feel stuck between opposing cultural values.

My other passion is
Asian
multicultural counseling.
Therapy with me is a place of active change. I help people manage stress and reduce overwhelm, strengthen relationships, build resilience, and move from "stuckness" into growth. My patients come to me to shift thinking styles, improve communication, and increase productivity. I use evidence-based practices (such as CBT and mindfulness) to enhance self-awareness, build skills, and achieve targeted goals. We also explore core beliefs and behavior patterns to deepen self-understanding. With couples, my work is informed by the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. My office is located in a beautiful, peaceful marina setting.

You may be in search for therapy because you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disappointed with where you are, limited by emotional burden and distress. Your upbringing, family history, and past relationships can shape these emotional experiences. My role as your therapist is to help you uncover important parts of yourself, gain deeper understanding, and facilitate change to your current circumstances. I specialize in working with adults dealing with grief, loneliness, difficult family dynamics, interpersonal conflict, anger management, and history of trauma and abuse.

I am a Bay Area-based
Asian
American clinical psychologist with a passion for working with adult children of immigrants, people of color, and historically marginalized folks. Many clients express struggling with perfectionism, people pleasing, self-criticism, and worry that they will never be "enough." There may be parts of themselves they feel unable to explore or express, and worry that these parts may not be understood or supported by others. Many may be navigating intergenerational trauma, and relationship issues with their family of origin or romantic relationships.

Hey, I’m glad you’re here. There are so many issues that can arise throughout our lives, either in our relationships, work, school, or even with ourselves. They can impact how we interact and perceive relationships, our thoughts and emotions, and how we think we fit into the world. These issues can cause us to feel confused, isolated, misunderstood, and unheard. Using empathy, sincerity, compassion, and authenticity, I want to help you unravel these complex issues and understand who you are, what factors impact these issues, and connect you with who you strive to be.

Did you grow up with
Asian
strict parents who couldn't be okay with honoring your opinion and feelings? Do you find yourself avoiding conflict or hiding your “No’s” with a smile? I help high-achievers from culturally diverse backgrounds develop stronger self-acceptance and create a strategy to manage their negative inner talk. Life of wondering if you are good enough can cause dread and feelings of being in a rut. When you work with me, you address your fears and insecurities at your own pacing and pick up techniques to support your overwhelm. I offer a warm sense of humor, listen in a non-judgmental and caring manner.

My specialties include complex trauma, childhood abuse/neglect, healing from narcissistic/abusive relationships, codependency and relationship problems, substance use disorders, masculinity and men's issues, couples therapy, and working with
Asian
American/minority issues such as family conflict, intergenerational trauma, cultural identity & racism.
Though I work with most issues, I specialize in helping people recover from complex trauma. People with narcissistic, abusive, or neglectful parents or partners sometimes develop issues with trusting themselves, have difficulty maintaining close relationships, struggle with an inner critic, vacillate often between depression and anxiety, lack a solid sense of identity, or feel a sense of emptiness when their lives seem great on paper. Sometimes that trauma can even become part of one's identity - I work with clients to build insight, boundaries, self-compassion, and acceptance to free themselves from it & live more fulfilling lives.

I work with
Asian
American individuals and couples around relationship issues. Most of my clients are thriving in their careers, but they want more. They want meaningful and deep connections. They want to be seen and accepted for who they are. But as Asians living in the US, being seen and understood is often complicated by cultural misunderstandings, holding conflicting values and identities, communication differences, prejudice and racism, intergenerational trauma, and immigration issues.

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
A culturally sensitive therapist would be respectful and considerate of different groups, with regard to race, sexual orientation, gender, and other factors that are important to an individual. These considerations can help a client feel understood as well as validated. While some people think highlighting race could promote stereotypes and bias, more understanding and knowledge about cultural differences is a positive for a healthy therapeutic alliance.
How can I recognize an effective Asian therapist?
You can discern a lot by asking how familiar the potential therapist is with different cultures, as well as asking how they might address issues related to identity, values, and beliefs. Also inquire about their education, as well as any particular training they may have completed, such as cultural sensitivity or diversity and inclusion programs.
What if the therapist does not have my exact background?
The therapist may not share a client’s exact background, but the therapist may have plenty of hands-on experience as well as the sensitivity needed for therapeutic progress. Their sensitivity to different populations will help the client feel accepted and comfortable in sharing their concerns and difficulties.
How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Asian clients?
A therapist with an Asian background may have experience within their community, as well as broader cultural sensitivity. Ask the potential therapist whether they've worked with individuals who share your background. If they have not worked with similar clients, they may well know someone who has such experience.
Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Asian therapists?
The directory of Asian therapists includes professionals who have shared their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason; also, when the number of therapists identified as Asian is limited, the directory will also show therapists with comprehensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
