Congratulations, you found a compassionate and affirming therapist. As you're reading this I understand it maybe with some degree of ambivalence. To that end, my immediate goal is to connect and reflect with you in ways that are safe, respectful and trusting. Only then can we have a meaningful, therapeutic-relationship that's open to collaboration, exploration, and revelation. This is where we "Make the road as we walk it", and I champion your journey, where ever it leads. I value the creative and growth potential of every human being. How can I best support you?

I have been providing individual therapy services specific to the LGBTQ+ community since December 2020. I am a person-centered, relational therapist who is warm. I honor my clients as the experts of their lives and enjoy forming a collaboration with the people I work with. I enjoy elements of psychoanalysis, especially if the outcome is greater acceptance and care for self. I believe that the therapeutic relationship can help rewrite stories that we tell ourselves about ourselves, as well as how we show up in relationships.

I have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, at-risk youth, parenting challenges, grief, loss, relationship issues and attachment difficulties.
Emotional healing occurs most readily in the context of a safe relationship that is simultaneously supportive, responsive and empathic, but that also challenges you to venture outside of your comfort zone. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, partnering with you in your individuality to help you reconnect with your own inner strength and wisdom. I can help you to make connections between your past experiences and present circumstances in order to better understand yourself, enabling you to make changes that translate into a more vibrant and fulfilling life.

Therapy doesn't have to be a long drawn out process. Whether you're suffering from depression, anxiety, or any other kind of challenge you want a therapist who can help you bring about change right from the start, to get to the deep roots of your problems and achieve results in as few sessions as possible. I specialize in a form of psychotherapy that is both depth-oriented and time-limited. I work with adults, adolescents and couples in my office in Berkeley, CA, and also work with many clients remotely by telephone.

I work with adults, teens, and couples struggling with depression, anxiety, and the inability to effectively communicate. With individuals, I help reframe challenges and liberate talents, especially in men alienated from the economy and meaningful purpose. I taught for years in a high school, and thus am comfortable working with adolescents. My orientation is eclectic, however I draw mostly from psychodynamic and relational theory, as well as CBT techniques. I find these approaches complementary, even necessary to establish a holistic treatment plan.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
