Together we can navigate the guilt, anxiety , and self-doubt that keeps you from believing in your inherent value and standing up for your needs.
Are you feeling anxious, stretched thin, and burnt out? Perhaps on the outside you're generous and caring, always anticipating the needs of others, but on the inside you’re overwhelmed and resentful. In therapy, you’ll explore the experiences that are causing you emotional pain. Maybe a parent or someone in your life has been oblivious to your needs, or holds their love conditionally, leaving you feeling worn out, raw, and defenseless. Although it can be challenging, learning to slow down, tune in to your feelings, and set appropriate boundaries is essential for your wellbeing.

I can help you if you are struggling with depression, anxiety , loss, work stress, parenting and much more. My approach to therapy draws from modalities such as art therapy and mindfulness based practices, Health at Every Size, and trauma informed practice. I understand that sometimes it is difficult to talk about one's emotions. However, even without words, it's often helpful to express those feelings through other mediums. I also help clients better understand their internal thought patterns, their motivations to make healthy changes in their lives, and their daily attentional patterns.

No one comes to a therapist because they need a lecture. You're here because you need a partner on your personal journey to healing. Good therapy is an invitation into a dialogue, not a monologue where someone "thera-splains" yourself to you. It's my passion to help my clients with self-esteem, depression, anxiety , parenting and learning to find enjoyment in daily life. I use LGBTQIA+ affirming, social justice-oriented, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches to support my clients. My areas of expertise include transitions, depression/ anxiety and positive parenting (including how to accept and support your LGBTQIA+ child).

My passion is working with clients from unique backgrounds and/or experiences who often contact me because they want to work on or through complex trauma, such as oppression based and/or inter-generational trauma. Modalities used addresses the concerns of those whose race, ethnicity, gender identification, income, disability/accessability, and other social factors which often go unrecognized/disavowed. Issues that arise for minority groups, such as oppression, racism, and marginalization, are relevant, recognized, validated, safely contained, and honored by me.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
