I am knowledgeable with non-traditional family structures (single parent , multiple caregiver, polyamorous, & LGBT families), transgender adolescent/child issues, anxiety, and neurodiversity . I’ve also begun working with the emotional effects of long Covid and chronic fatigue.

Educated and experienced in both models, I have completed all necessary requirements for certification. EFT is ideal for use with couples, individuals, and families. Clinical background includes training from UCSF's Infant- Parent -Program in San Francisco, The Psychotherapy Institute in Berkeley, in addition to The Women's Therapy Center also in Berkeley. I am a psychodynamically trained therapist with a background in long term psychotherapy, family therapy (brief strategic family therapy), and infant- parent psychotherapy.
I believe that healing occurs in a safe space with a trusted other. People seek out therapy for different reasons and often these reasons are hard to talk about. Maybe you are wrestling with painful memories from your past, maybe you find it difficult to have satisfying relationships, maybe you are experiencing anxiety and depression, or, perhaps, you are having difficulty coping with a loss or connecting with your child. It can be quite helpful to explore these issues and trace back their roots; processing, exploring, and being curious about feelings and beliefs that may come up along the way.

Co- Parenting : Communicating for Results (C4R) - Unplanned Conversations is a day-long experiential/skill-building course.
Relationships are big challenges. Who are we when we interact with those around us? Do we let others see us for who we really are? Can we see them? I specialize in working with individuals and couples as they try to manage their relationships: preserving them, ending them or changing them. This includes the effects of divorce and moving from a pre-divorce to a post-divorce family from deciding how to tell your children to determining how you want to define your co- parenting relationship.

I have expertise in untangling emotions and triggers through parent collaboration and coaching.
Families are struggling more then ever. As you tirelessly continue to navigate the Pandemic and your own stressors, there is a feeling of helplessness when your child retreats into depression or acts out in anger or fits of anxiety. Your child is suffering socially and emotionally and while it's your deepest wish to comfort them you feel lost. You are spread as far out as you can imagine and still you stretch further losing your joy and confidence as a parent . If you are partnered, there is tension in your parenting styles. You are committed to finding strategies that support your child and are sustainable.

I have extensive training and experience working with children, families, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, grief and loss, behavioral and educational issues, life and career transitions, family conflict, parenting , motherhood, pregnancy, emotional dysregulation, and divorce.
I recognize that seeking therapy means that you or a loved one have determined a need for connection beyond that of friends and family. Knowing how difficult and intimidating this outreach can be, as a psychologist I strive to establish a safe space where clients can speak freely and be listened to intently. The work we do together is about creating an alliance that allows you to delve into painful memories and face feelings that can be frightening or uncomfortable. We do this work in collaboration, so I can hear your stories, and create a meaningful relationship.

I work with anger, depression, anxiety, relationship and parenting issues, as well work issues, including the transition to retirement.
I have over 20 years of clinical experience, and I have come to trust that the process of a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship can help us feel empowered, and confident in our own healthy sense of self. We may be stuck in the debilitating self-criticism of depression, or paralyzed with anxiety. We may feel lonely, angry, bored, insecure, victimized, or worthless. A trusting therapeutic relationship offers witness, safety, clarity, connection, and validation as we come to know and accept our own vulnerabilities, develop our own language of self, and face the challenges in our lives.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
