I work with people who face challenges that often arise but are not exclusive to the second half of life such as: the trauma of illness &
death
, caring for aging parents,
loss
of satisfaction or sense of meaning in relationships and work,
loss
of a job, and/or loneliness. I also work with folks suffering from love addiction or love avoidance. These challenges can often be baffling and carry symptoms such as depression, fear and anxiety. The rational mind may understand what is going on but somehow the emotional and physical body can't always take solace in rational solutions.

Life can be hard... And we don’t have to do it alone. I work with couples and individuals ranging in issues of anxiety, depression,
grief
/
loss
, self esteem, relationships, and parenting. My own painful experiences, and the work I have done to heal, have afforded me the ability to be present and sit with people in their own pain. I have a natural inclination to seek out deep connection with people which informs my work with clients. This can help my clients to deepen connections with others, outside of the room. I work with couples to strengthen connection, deepen intimacy, and find their voice within the partnership.

Axis Mundi would like to present Inga Chegai. Inga is Marriage and Family Therapist & PCC Associate supervised by Elysha Martinez LMFT93493. I work with trauma, depression, anxiety, abandonment issues,
loss
of purpose, identity, parts of self, insecurities, anger, PTSD, addiction, patterns in relationship. Most patterns in our responses to events, people and our behaviors are learned. How to unlearn learned behaviors if this is all you know? Why just understanding the problem will not change trauma? How can we use a challenge as a way to see what we need to work on? I can help to find answers to those questions.

Not Accepting New Clients at this Time: Individual, Couples/Relationship, Teen Counseling. LGBTQIA+, Poly, Sex-Positive, & Kink friendly. Folks tend to come to me when they are feeling stuck around their anxiety or depression. They usually are holding questions around their sexuality/identity, life transitions, and processing
grief
or
loss
. They know that they have the wisdom to resolve these feelings inside, but they are feeling stuck on how to access them. Everything feels a little garbled, and I help them clear the way to access the answers to the questions they are holding.

I am not afraid of the complex, messy,
grief
-filled parts of our lives, and can join you in these places with compassion, curiosity, collaboration, and soulfulness.
I've been working as a clinical social worker/therapist for 16 years, with individuals and groups, from youth through adulthood, in a diverse array of settings, most prominently the health center at El Cerrito High School, where for many years I was the Training Director. I've also worked in jails, SROs, youth centers, camps, a small press, oftentimes offering writing as a vehicle for healing. My calling and gift is to hold sacred, safe + brave spaces for people to be truly seen and known, and from there to support them stepping into their unique and authentic selves. It is my great privilege to meet people in this courageous place.

Couples/Relationship Counseling. LGBTQ, Poly, & Kink friendly. Clients that like my style seek therapy mostly for anxiety or depression that comes from the feeling that life lacks purpose, feels stuck, or stale; especially during times of heartache, misunderstanding, break-ups, or even
death
. Many useful moments, crucial moments, can arise at the end of something - unresolved past hurts, spiritual dilemmas, a sudden urgency and passion for figuring out "why we're here" - understanding them and integrating them is what I offer. Closing the old stuff up well means new, exciting beginnings are possible...often in the same relationship!

Welcome. I do this work because I care deeply about healing through connection and compassionate relationships. I love working with people so they can learn about themselves, challenge old stories that may no longer serve, and ultimately live more authentic lives. Each of us is strong, powerful and beautiful, with unique gifts to offer this world. Yet sorrow is real, and having a safe and compassionate space to address
grief
, transition, relationship issues, trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, and questions about gender and sexuality is fundamental and healing.

I'm a recovering academic (and tech-bro) with the vibe of an excited college professor at a tavern. I’m very authentic and direct with clients. My style is anchored in cognitive science, attachment theory, mindfulness, social justice, and somatic psychology. I value science equally with the domain of intuition and art, and I consider myself an especially huge nerd with evolutionary psychology. I'm LGBTQIA+ identified and aligned.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
