I specialize in using a
mindfulness
-based approach, which may include meditation, body awareness exercises, or the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approach.
I tend to work mostly with men who are searching to find deeper meaning and purpose in life. I view therapy as a sacred experience that can help you connect with your highest self and lead you to greater healing and growth. Traditional psychology tends to work on solely healing the self, whereas I see spirituality as more concerned with transcending the self. My perspective is that both are important on the journey toward wellness and fulfillment in life.

I came to my role as a psychotherapist after experiencing the transformative impact of talk therapy and
mindfulness
practices on my own sensitive nervous system.
I work with people who have been told they're “too sensitive,” “too much,” feel misunderstood, or feel alienated from the mainstream. I work with partners looking for a therapist who "gets it." You are not too intense, too sensitive, or too "out there." The whole of you is welcome with me! I work from an anti-oppressive framework and enthusiastically welcome activists, LGBTQIA+, poly + kinky folks, artists + dreamers, highly sensitive + emotionally intense types, marginalized people, and general misfits. I'm dedicated to equity in my relationships and fighting for it systematically.

While my main modality is CBT, in my 15 years of practice I've developed an eclectic approach and I often also integrate elements of ACT, DBT, IFS, positive psychology, psychodynamic, systems,
mindfulness
-based and solution-focused therapies.
I work with clients to help them heal from symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma. I specialize with teens and young adults. Therapy provides an opportunity to be completely yourself, without regard to the pressures or demands of the world around you. When you feel safe, you're more free to talk about change. I'll help you build upon your strengths and support you in becoming more aware of patterns that hold you back from achieving your goals. I believe therapy is an important investment in health and will help you create patterns that form the foundation for a satisfied life.

I offer weekly therapeutic services for kids, individuals, couples and families of all structures. I take a
mindfulness
-based approach to the work and practice in a highly relational manner, focusing equally on the process of the therapeutic relationship as with the content of what is being explored outside of the therapy room.

I primarily work relationally but also use somatic and
mindfulness
interventions with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression or other struggles.
When we foster a space of compassion and curiosity we have more room to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, our boundaries and our desires. By creating this intentional space, we can increase opportunities for choice in our lives. Using a combination of relational, psychodynamic and
mindfulness
techniques I will help you to understand your own emotional landscape, so you can feel better equipped to manage stressful moments in life and have more capacity for joy and meaning. I specialize in working with the LGBTQI population and also with couples of all constellations.

What's happening in your life today? How can I help? Some need to address painful life barriers they are faced with due to depression, anxiety or trauma. Others want to figure out why their interpersonal relationships are conflicted and stressful or that they still haven't met the person they want to be with. How about you?

I adapt my approach based on what you might need drawing from Attachment, Psychodynamic, Relational,
Mindfulness
and Somatic based methods.
Therapy can lead to better relationships and more ease in our lives. I work with individuals and couples to find more clarity and balance in their lives. Sometimes we avoid parts of our life or ourselves that are painful. Together we will get to know these hurt parts and how they show up, whether it is through fears and worries, the critical voice you hear inside, or a feeling of being stuck, lost, alone or helpless.

I help you look at how your past influences shape how you operate in life today, and the themes and patterns that continue to show up in your life, bringing
mindfulness
in a way that allows you to make more aware choices.
Do you have a hard time speaking up and expressing yourself? When you anticipate a conflict or someone who may have a differing opinion than you, do you tend to keep quiet to maintain the peace? The world sees you as gentle and kind. You are capable, accountable, and have achieved a lot. But There is more fire in you that wants to come out and make things happen. I can help you access the other parts of you that the world doesn’t get to see, the parts that you don’t acknowledge in you but can see and admire in others. Once these parts are allowed to come out, they can help you navigate life with less doubt, more ease, and clarity.

Stuck in your head? Tired of talking? Are you able to "understand the problem" but still find the same issues keep coming up in life and your relationships? Have you experienced success and growth, yet still somehow FEEL stuck and dissatisfied? Maybe you've tried therapy but weren't seeing the changes you would like or expect. Or maybe you've avoided therapy because talking about the problem doesn't really seem to "do it". As an expressive arts, somatic therapist I operate from the idea that what happens to you in your life is stored not only in the mind but also in the body and therefore therapy should involve more than just talk.

Hello, and thanks for viewing my profile. Asking for help can be difficult, and finding a good fit in searching for a therapist is essential. Therapy can help us deepen both our understanding of the problems we face and our agency in addressing them. My job is to push you to think critically about your concerns, to live with deeper meaning and purpose, and to find complexity and richness in your lived experiences. In addition to private practice work, I hold a clinical position at UC-Berkeley, and work as the liaison to the Cal Athletics Department and the Golden State Warriors.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
