Psychoanalytic
psychotherapy offers a uniquely rich opportunity for growth, self discovery and change.
I have been a Marriage and Family therapist for over 25 years. I enjoy working with and helping couples and individuals who are having difficulty finding joy and happiness in their lives. I believe strongly that we all are trying to build a healthier life, but sometimes need a little help understanding the things that get in our way. We get in a rut, repeating the same destructive behaviors and feel hopeless about ever getting what we really want and need. I can help you identify negative patterns, understand where they come from and change them into effective, self affirming strategies.

I work with each person from an individualized perspective, addressing issues from a psychodynamic, cognitive and
psychoanalytic
framework.
Are you looking for a place to begin healing? Have you tried many other things, only to feel disappointed that life's challenges continue to be more complex than you thought? An effective therapy process creates space and understanding for the purpose of transforming life's struggles and disappointments. In the process, a renewed capacity for more satisfying relationships, greater effectiveness, resiliency and coping skills begin to emerge. Life becomes meaningful and purposeful. In a professional, caring environment, I seek to uncover the patterns and difficulties of the past and create an environment where healing and recovery can take place.

My therapy approach is a combination of
psychoanalytic
, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

Hello! Like our physical health, I believe our mental health is just as important and requires some intention, work, and accountability in order to help maintain optimal well-being. Sometimes, we can do it on our own and other times, we could use some help – both are ok. If we’re a good fit, therapy, tailored to your unique experience and needs, can significantly help you towards maintaining and sustaining your well-being.

You’re likely here because you’re experiencing some kind of distress or pain and you’re looking for relief from it. To make matters worse, you’re having to sift through hundreds of therapists, probably only adding to the distress if I had to guess…there’s a lot of us to choose from, after all. I’ve been the client searching for a therapist and quite honestly, it sucks. So, I feel glad you’ve landed here. Here’s a bit about me, how I approach therapy and who I work with. I'm a father, husband, and someone who cares very deeply. I work primarily from the belief that we're significantly shaped by our environments and relationships.

INTERRACIAL COUPLES…. Culturally diverse factors may exist but the underlining issues threatening your happiness are the same as any other relationship. Emotional detachment leaving you feeling isolated and disconnected when there has been a shift in focus to career, friends, children, hobbies or social activities. Your partner fails to express gratitude or appreciation for the contribution you make to the relationship leaving you agitated and bitter. Sensing a loss of sexual intimacy or struggling with physical affection. Toxic Masculinity or Femininity may have left you defenseless against verbal or physical abuse.

I am NOT good enough, I am NOT lovable, & I am not WORTHY! Sound familiar? Does it look "PERFECT" on the outside but you struggle internally? Does something feel off even though it seems life is all together? We live in a fast-paced world. The expectation is for us to have everything together: the perfect relationship, job, home, friends, body, high self-esteem, and social media life. - - - - - - - - - - - - The reality is, we have real emotions, feelings, and life challenges. Even the strongest of us need some support in forcing our inner self-sabtoging critic to sashay away. Together, let's create the life you've always wanted.

My approach to therapy is to bring awareness and understanding of underlying beliefs and roles that perpetuate anxiety, depression, relational issues, or feeling "stuck". By identifying these, we can work towards healing and shifting the beliefs and roles into something that better serve you as a human being. Many of our beliefs and the role that we assume in life are so ingrained within us that we don't even see how they may be causing us issues, that's were I can help bring light and awareness into play and create a comfortable and safe environment for growth and change.

Psychoanalytic Therapists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.
How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.
Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.
Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
