I love working with young adults. Right now your lives are filled with choices and decisions, and you may be trying to develop deep, long-lasting relationships. You've got so many life transitions going on all at once, and it can be very confusing! If you also have emotional pain happening in your life at the same time, you may feel "stuck" in moving forward. There's so much to look forward to in your life and you don't want to miss out.

Life is full of difficulty and uncertainty, as a therapist, I work towards creating a safe space for my clients to explore themselves and their relationships. I enjoy working with individuals and couples to help them heal through self discovery. My hope is to provide them with the necessary understanding to create change and minimize suffering. I invite my clients to explore their earliest relationships to help them identify how those dynamics may be impacting their current life. I believe by bringing awareness to what is unconscious, my clients will have a better opportunity to make healthier lasting change with understanding.

Pretending everything is fine is exhausting. Coping with everything life throws at you, juggling different roles, and trying to be all things to all people. You feel guilty and inadequate and worry that someday all those plates you're spinning will come crashing down. Maybe you're an amazing "somebody" who often feels like an invisible and overwhelmed "nobody." Or maybe if they see you, they will know that you're not enough. Your body is not enough. Your relationship is not enough. You're incapable of fixing everything yourself. You feel lost and alone, living in silent despair.

Hi, I'm Holly. I'm a therapist, a human, & a believer in change. I specialize in working with people in life transitions. Individuals who I see often tell me they feel stuck and want to live a more authentic life. I have experience working those who struggle with anxiety,
codependency
, relationship issues, substance issues and depression. I typically use a process called IFS (internal family systems) to help clients identify the different (& often conflicting) parts of themselves with the goal of unburdening limiting beliefs, developing self compassion, and ultimately living from your highest Self.

I believe that much of addiction and
codependency
can be traced to childhood trauma.
Are you afraid your wife or partner is going to break up with you? Are you worried that people will find out about your online or in-person sexual activity? My specialty is helping men who are spending too much time viewing pornography or engaged in cybersex, keep going to prostitutes or massage parlors even when they try to stop, or cruise for sex online or in person and have trouble stopping. No matter what, I will help you succeed. It may be hard work; but you have so much to gain--your relationships and your life.

We are the sum of all of our relationships and experiences. Therapy helps to determine what aspects of our sum that we can consciously choose to influence a better whole in the here-and-now. Life is a constant state of transition. Those in recovery from substances,
codependency
, or trauma are in the midst of a whirlwind of change. By using evidence based Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, I help clients gain insight into present life struggles, past influences, and future direction. It all starts with a simple diagram, the Intimacy Gram. I also integrate community support, such as Adult Children of Alcoholics, into my practice.

GASLIGHTING; NARCISSIST ABUSE;
CODEPENDENCY
; TOXIC ATTACHMENT; HI-CONFLICT RELATIONSHIP: Gaslighting is a form of psychological/emotional abuse where the abuser manipulates situations repeatedly to trick the victim into doubting his/her own memory, perception & sanity. You're accused of doing something that you know you didn't do or say. Often belittled, demeaned, and raged upon. You walk on eggshells & constantly need to watch what you say for fear your partner might blow up. You often feel confused & now distrust yourself; have trouble making decisions & feel like you lost yourself or don't know the person you used to be.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.
What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.
How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.
What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
