I've worked with
children
between the age of 6 to14 for more than twenty years as a therapist and teacher, as well as marital problems.
Being in the helping field is where I belong, and helping others is my priority. I initially began my career as a teacher, and then decided to pursue a deeper role in helping others learn, grow, and become their best self. During the past 8 years of being a clinical therapist, I have worked in both a clinic and school setting. I've worked with a diverse population, including people of all ages, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I welcome anyone who is willing to work with me, together, to improve relationships, self, family, and/or overall well-being.

I believe that life ebbs and flows with the changes of life's demands. Many of these changes are positive ones, but at times hardships can follow, needing assistance and guidance in finding solutions. This is where the therapeutic process can help in alleviating your symptoms, bringing about new energy and happiness in enjoying life's many adventures. My enjoyment in the therapeutic process is one of discovery and collaboration in identifying difficulties and solutions to the patient's problems. Above all, I believe the relationship between the patient and therapist is the cornerstone to achieving the patient's goals.

Well-being may seem like a fantasy. The reality is everyone experiences struggles and pain that feel insurmountable. Well-being and peace may feel far away. Therapy isn't a magic wand, but it offers a path towards well-being, a way we can unravel where we're stuck and identify blind spots hindering us. As an individual, within a relationship, or amidst a family, we can become very tangled in our thoughts and circumstances. Sometimes it becomes hard to see that we have options and new possibilities. My goal is to support each client to reach this well-being.

Family in crisis? Everyone in the family is impacted by the stressful environment when
children
refuse to follow directions and develop behaviors such as verbal aggression (disrespectful communication, degrading comments, verbally threaten others), emotional outbursts (yelling, temper tantrums), physical aggression toward self (i.e., cutting and/or burning self) or others (pushing and/or hitting others, destroying property), suicidal ideation (threat to self) and/or homicidal ideation (threat to others), and/or running away (AWOL). As a result of feelings of sadness and anger,
children
and parents often engage in power struggles.

As a parent I know there is no worse feeling than watching your
child
struggle and being helpless to stop it. Trying desperately to help and connect with them only to feel like they are moving farther away from you despite how much you love them. Ultimately, nothing is more painful than feeling like you have failed your
child
. In the end all parents want is for their
children
to be happy and healthy but often to a
child
or teenager, going to therapy can make them feel like they are a problem that needs to be fixed.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
