Trauma/Anxiety - EMDR Intensives provide relief.
Have you been through a lot in your life? Do you sometimes feel beaten down by all that you’ve gone through? Has it left you feeling stuck and anxious? No matter what their stories have been, I sit with my clients and help them to find the joy and freedom in their lives they have longed for. We move from surviving to thriving. My clients walk away recognizing how resilient they are and what it takes to live a fully free life. I make first responders and their families a priority. I keep things real. I know how to laugh, relax and join with my clients in their journeys. It doesn’t have to be this hard.

My approach to treatment is trauma and attachment informed because I believe that most addiction is driven by trauma and a lack of a healthy relationship with ones self.
Wherever you are on the pendulum of substance use, between experimentation and dependency, I will provide specialized counseling and support to you and your family. Together through the process of exploration, goal-setting, education, family work, and underlying trauma healing, we will break through addiction and create a new reality with new possibilities.

I use an eclectic style that I have formed over many years of working with adults and children experiencing health traumas and family transitions through foster care, etc. I often start with crisis intervention and prioritize starting where the client is. I provide feedback and suggestions and motivational interviewing. I also have experience working with harm reduction models for substance abuse intervention. I often use Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients with self-esteem, shame, and PTSD symptoms.

I am not my trauma, I am what I choose to become
My training would be defined as "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" but I engage in general therapy. This means that I will work with my clients to meet them where they are and use tools, interventions and approaches that respect their person and strives to align with who they are. I am here for the client and make it a point to engage on a humanistic level. I am not a therapist who sits in a chair and asks "how does that make you feel?" I am a therapist who wants to actively help you identify your goal(s) and come up with a plan for you to reach them. I will not waste your time and I am invested as much as you are.

Trauma: Trauma is part of the human condition, and past trauma directs future behavioral choices.
Substance Abuse: A non-traditional approach; I treat each client like they're unique because every case is unique! I purposely keep a low clientele caseload to insure each person receives top care and attention. I work to get your actions lined up with your goals. The environment is relaxed, fun and inappropriate at times, and vulnerable at other times.

I see therapy as a safe place where you can feel supported, understood, and accepted just as you are. My style is warm, compassionate, and collaborative—I’ll walk alongside you as we explore what’s happening beneath the surface and discover new ways of coping, connecting, and healing. I focus less on “fixing” and more on creating space for growth, clarity, and self-kindness, helping you build resilience, strengthen relationships, and move toward lasting change at your own pace.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
