Rarely is the step towards seeking help from a therapist easy, or without contemplation. Here is a description of what I've found works best. During our first meeting, I engage you in a process to help you find the best fit possible for your particular needs. Together we can work on defining the right type and style of treatment best for you. We can define specific needs for either long or short term problems that are specific to you individually. This short process will give needed direction to your personal journey.

Some are burdened with a sense of disconnection from others. Many come to believe that they are isolated without hope. Joining the tapestry of humanity, learning about the beloved, and understanding the language of relationships are some of the benefits of insight oriented psychotherapy. Often depression, anxiety and fears, loneliness and even psychosis begin with isolation. This isolation is made intolerable by disappointments and trauma. Self-knowledge is the beginning of healing. From self knowledge comes self-control, humility, and a sense of purpose. The staff at New Dawn Psychology Center strives to help you overcome life's trials and tribulations.

Too often psychotherapy focuses on causality, pathology and cures. However, rather than being "sick" or 'broken", often we are just lost inside ourselves or relationships. Everyone is a unique person with their own story, experience and perspective. The goal of therapy is to achieve a deeper awareness of where we are, to discover internal meaning for our many experiences, and to experience a life worth living. While working towards that awareness, I also feel it important to teach individuals, couples and families the skills needed to cope with the pain and day to day stressors that bring them into therapy.

I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up.
My goal for each man I work with is to provide hope and support while facilitating the recovery process. This usually requires us to dig deep and figure out why we engage in destructive behaviors. It also requires us to develop a treatment plan that specifically targets the maladaptive behaviors and reduces the chance of relapse.

A very fulfilling aspect of my work with young men/boys has been engaging in dialogue around what society has taught men about emotions.
Hi! I am located in the Ventura/Santa Barbara area and currently offer in person and telehealth options. I have worked with couples going through significant life changes, teenagers (and their parents) who have behavioral struggles, blended families redefining household dynamics, people who are having "mental blocks" that prevent them from accomplishing their goals, young adults at risk of hospitalization, and everything in between. My goal as a therapist is to support you on your journey. Whatever that may be! This space is reserved solely for YOU to get the support you need.

For many men, turning to Pornhub, OnlyFans, cam sites, or even Instagram creates a growing emotional gap, eroding trust, intimacy and connection.
I work with men who feel trapped by secrecy, shame, and fear of losing valued connections. I understand this struggle personally because I’ve been in your shoes. As a mental health professional and someone who’s faced these challenges, I help you overcome barriers, rebuild trust, restore intimacy, and become the partner you want to be.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
