With individuals, I utilize mindfulness, Internal Family Systems ( IFS ) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Are you looking to improve your relationship with yourself and others in your life? If so, then perhaps I can help. I work with adults, couples, and families wanting healthier, stronger relationships, and an overall better life. I enjoy working with people who want to transform their lives and their relationships; those who are ready to release the past and live more fully in the present in order to create a better future. I work with people on issues of trauma, spirituality, and grief resulting from death, a lost relationship and/or lost opportunities. I also work with people with process and substance addictions and recovery.

It may not feel like it right now, but change is possible. Through therapy, you can become aware of the unconscious decisions you are making each day that are unknowingly shaping your life. You may find that the unhelpful decisions all center around patterns meant to keep you safe. Together, we can work on increasing your sense of security and recognizing which patterns are no longer working. I am trained in EMDR, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Sensorimotor Therapy. These modalities can aid you in going deeper and effectively processing the patterns and traumas that are keeping you stuck.

I have begun the process towards certification in Internal Family Systems , or IFS , completing level 1 and 2 training.
I have been helping men, women, and teens work through a variety of mental health concerns for the last 14 years, with a specialized focus in working with trauma and addictions. Creating space for curiosity and compassion towards parts of ourselves that have been helping us cope, I love the opportunity to help people pay attention to their experience in new ways and find freedom from the things that have kept them feeling stuck.

We generally use several different approaches, including Short-Term Psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, Internal Family Systems , and Interpersonal Therapy, depending on what best fits your needs and personality.
If you are struggling with disordered mood, excessive anxiety, low motivation, low energy, sleep problems, stress, preparing for or adjusting to a new baby, scary thoughts, having relationship turbulence, or difficulties at work or school, I may be able to help. I work with a lot of college students, parents, and corporate workers to help gain clarity, resolve symptoms, build resiliency skills, and get unstuck from unhelpful patterns. I have a specialty interest and intensive training experience in prenatal and postpartum issues and enjoy helping moms and dads navigate the beginning of parenthood.

Hello! I am a therapist who draws heavily on approaches such as EMDR and Internal Family Systems to help someone make deep changes in their life. Do you sometimes ask yourself: I feel angry, disappointed, or depressed. What can I do? I tried everything, nothing works in the long term. Why are my relationships so unfulfilling? During sessions, you are guided to discover the parts of your Self that are in conflict. They have conflicting goals, perspectives, and beliefs. Those "parts" often pull you in opposite directions - "I want to eat, but I also want to lose weight" for example. Then you criticize yourself for not being more responsible, productive, etc... Get to understand why they pull you in opposite directions and how to negotiate with them.

Successful on the outside, but suffering on the inside? Have you experienced therapy sessions where you've talked at length, felt better in the moment, but ultimately noticed little change in your life? Or perhaps you've had therapists who've given you sound advice, but somehow, you just can't seem to implement it. If this sounds like you, experiential and integrative therapy approaches that I offer may be a good fit for you.

While there are many reasons people seek therapy, one thought is central: something has to change. Considering this idea takes tremendous courage. It can also bring tremendous reward. Change is not always easy, but it is possible. Therapy can be a powerful tool in this process by helping you gain insight, support, and confidence to develop new patterns and behaviors. As a clinical psychologist, I work collaboratively with people to identify the source of their pain and empower them to resolve it using evidenced-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based therapies.

Hello! I am a LCSW passionate about working with individuals and families struggling with severe mood and anxiety. As you can see from my picture I have a compassionate yet light-hearted spirit that connects well with kids of all ages. For 11 years, I worked in the Pediatric Bipolar Disorders Program at Stanford creating and modifying therapeutic treatment modalities for children and families. For this reason, I am best suited for clients with mood or anxiety disorders, behavioral difficulties, & suicidal tendencies. I see the most success when I am permitted to work with the client and the family simultaneously.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
