My professional training and experience has focused extensively on child, adolescent, and family therapy, as well as emerging adulthood (age 19-24). This includes working together to develop strategies, coping skills, new perspectives, and supportive therapy for youth dealing with challenges related to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, rejection, anger/aggression, interpersonal conflict, planning for the future, social or academic pressures, and self-image/identity.

I believe that all clients have the resources within them to resolve the emotional and social challenges they are presented with in life. I work with individuals and couples, as well as children and adolescents on a range of problems. Couples counseling, separation and divorce, blended and extended family issues, parenting, behavioral problems in children and teenagers, multi-cultural issues, depression, and domestic violence are areas of particular interest for me. I grew up in India and have been in the US since 1981. I am intimately familiar with the two cultures.

Successful on the outside, but suffering on the inside? Have you experienced therapy sessions where you've talked at length, felt better in the moment, but ultimately noticed little change in your life? Or perhaps you've had therapists who've given you sound advice, but somehow, you just can't seem to implement it. If this sounds like you, experiential and integrative therapy approaches that I offer may be a good fit for you.

I am here to partner with you on your healing journey - to help guide you back to a state of greater freedom, wholeness and connection. Past leadership positions at Bay Area mental health programs have informed my work as a therapist. I have seen for some that balancing a career or education with everyday life can be overwhelming and isolating if one works endlessly while sacrificing self-care. You may find it challenging to set boundaries. You may feel like you are "being othered" by those who do not understand you. You may find it difficult to open your heart to family or friends when education, career, and relationships hold specific meanings for you. My passion as a therapist is to help people thrive in the ever-changing cultures of home, work, or academic life.

Do you sometimes ask yourself: I feel angry, disappointed, or depressed. What can I do? I tried everything, nothing works in the long term. Why are my relationships so unfulfilling? During sessions, you are guided to discover the parts of your Self that are in conflict. They have conflicting goals, perspectives, and beliefs. Those "parts" often pull you in opposite directions - "I want to eat, but I also want to lose weight" for example. Then you criticize yourself for not being more responsible, productive, etc... Get to understand why they pull you in opposite directions and how to negotiate with them.

Anxiety, stress, and depression can all feel so overwhelming and hold us back from living our lives. It can also feel discouraging not to find a therapist that can not only connect on a human level, but also one that offers effective tools to feel better and often right away. I use a form of therapy called TEAM-CBT that uses evidenced based treatment methods to help you or your child with anxiety, depression, procrastination, and relationship problems.

Adolescence is a time of great change and growth. During that time there can also be a lot of worry. Worries about the future, grades, external pressures, social challenges, and the drive toward perfectionism. Without treatment, anxiety can become overwhelming which in turn can take control of your family structure. I teach adolescents, parents and young adults how worry works, and the skills to manage the intrusive, repetitive, and negative thoughts they are experiencing.

I work with clients who are dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions and stress. I am committed to assisting clients with decreasing their mental health symptoms by identifying and changing unhealthy behaviors and thoughts. In order to do this, it is important to discover and practice adaptive alternative behaviors and thoughts, healthy coping-skills and self-care. In addition, I believe that in order to achieve change every client should have a supportive and comfortable therapeutic space, and I enjoy creating that for my clients.

Humans are social beings. In the caveman days, those who were separated from the pack were not able to survive. A primitive part of our brain longs to stay connected to others. Unsuccessful relationships can feel like death. Sometimes we repeat relationship mistakes. Other times, we withdrawal but isolation can feel like a vast dessert with no end in sight. Luckily there is another way. Being in a healthy relationship with another human being is often a vital component to happiness. As your therapist, I would like to walk with you on your journey towards becoming more connected.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
