Hello and welcome. Beginning therapy can be a big step. Often people seek therapy when their experience of suffering has reached a point of being intolerable, while others might just need some guidance or seek a witness on their journey of personal growth. I'm glad you are reaching out for the support you need. Therapy allows us to explore ourselves more deeply, understand patterns that keep us stuck, heal old wounds, access our authentic self-expression and develop much needed skills and tools to navigate this crazy thing called life.
The Chinese symbol for crisis is the same for opportunity. In every crisis we have the ability to create the opportunity for positive change. Quite often we don't take advantage of the opportunity because we get stuck in the crisis of the situation or event. My role is to help you understand and move out of the crisis and understand and utilize the present opportunity.
After 14 years of teaching high school and serving in the USAF, Texas Air National Guard, Naval and Army Reserves consecutively, I decided to switch gears and become a counselor. Despite taking 20 years to make up my mind about which military branch to serve in, I was sure about the decision to be a counselor and attended Dallas Seminary to train as a secular and Christian therapist. In addition to the above, I have experience in working with married couples, kids (8 to 80), people going through divorce (having suffered one myself), persons struggling with addictions and trauma victims.
It takes courage to seek support and look deeply at yourself and your unique challenges and strengths. My focus is to help clients feel more empowered, balanced, and whole in their lives. I offer a unique combination of psychotherapy, informed by Depth Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Functional Medicine-as well as NeurOptimal Neurofeedback Brain Training to support mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. My experience includes: trauma focused outpatient county mental health with adults and children, crisis work in local hospitals-as well as grief and palliative care for hospice patients and their families.

If life is suffering, as it was said long ago, what is the meaning of both suffering and life? The real secret seems to be that through suffering we transcend suffering. Engaging in our legitimate suffering – manifesting as anxieties and depressions – brings us beyond the narrow egocentric view into a broader compassion and understanding, which is essentially a place of peace. I am not here to heal you but to help guide you to the place of self-healing. I have seen enough of both suffering and self-healing to know whereof I speak. Let's talk about what troubles you and find your unique path to resolution and acceptance.
Call me and we can talk about increasing your well-being and overall satisfaction with life. Often we get stuck in patterns and could benefit from professional help. I love my work and feel honored to provide effective evidenced-based therapy. Please check my website.
My practice is relationship focused. I particularly enjoy working with couples and have found that if couples are willing to put the work in, great strides can be made towards healing and connection. I have completed two levels toward certification in the Gottman method of couples therapy and have also done training in the Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. In my work with couples and individuals, I incorporate mindfulness-based therapy.
In this life there will be hardships, challenges and pain. I understand that we all have a unique story to tell, you do not have to travel this road alone. I believe that as a therapist I am simply a guide to encourage and support each individual to formulate their own solutions to challenges and achievement of goals. The therapeutic atmosphere is one of non-judgment and empathy. Kindness and genuineness are the therapeutic tools I hope to convey as the individual and I travel the road to healing.
