My clinical approach is informed by Jungian psychoanalytic, decolonial feminist, liberatory, and emancipatory perspectives.
The call to undergo therapy is both deeply personal and unique to the individual or couple who seeks it. It often requires confrontation with the deepest parts of oneself and the courage to embrace the unknown. I strongly believe in the transformative potential of the therapeutic process and the importance of deep relating. Through the use of dream work, imagery, somatic awareness, and storytelling, my goal is to co-create a safe and empathic environment where individuals are seen, heard, and empowered.

Something shifts when you feel truly seen, not analyzed or nudged toward a particular outcome, but genuinely met. That quality of connection is what I bring into every session, and is the foundation our work is built on. I work relationally, which means I bring myself into the room; my warmth, curiosity, and full attention. From this foundation we can begin to explore the parts of you that feel at odds with each other, old patterns that no longer serve you, and begin to listen to your nervous system where so much of our experience actually lives.

I am empathic and warm yet direct and challenging in our collaborative relationship. I provide a safe harbor from which to work and together we will identify ways in which your past is preventing you from living the life you want. Some of my hopes are that your tendency to be self-critical will soften and that you will become compassionate towards yourself; that you will gain positive coping skills to deal with stress and anxiety and to decrease perfectionistic tendencies and that you accomplish the goals that you have set for yourself. I will be your guide in this process.

Coming to therapy can be a confusing and vulnerable endeavor. Even those who appear functional can carry loneliness, anxiety, and shame. Many of us long for closer connection and a way of living that feels more authentic, yet feel stuck in ways that are hard to understand or change on our own. I see these struggles not simply as symptoms to be fixed, but as meaningful expressions of your inner world and your history. My work centers on creating a warm, grounded space where you can slow down and explore your relationships to yourself and others, your feelings, and your biggest struggles.

My approach is depth-oriented, psychoanalytic and relational, which means I think immediate distress is alleviated when the whole person and their lived experience is truly considered in the context of a sustained therapeutic relationship.
My work with you begins with the recognition that it takes courage to seek help. You may have questions about why you feel the way you feel and why you do the things you do. I believe you are not defined by your symptoms. Whether you struggle with love, work, or relationships, whether you are in crisis or you have received a mental health diagnosis, I believe that your true desires, conflicts, and needs are meaningful and worth actively getting to know. From our first session together, I meet you where you are.

Sometimes the issues and struggles that we encounter in life are almost impossible to resolve on our own. A seasoned therapist, I bring nearly 20 years of experience working with people struggling with a range of difficulties including more severe emotional problems. My approach is down-to-earth and practical. I'll first clarify with you where you feel stuck and how you would like to feel or behave differently. We will work collaboratively to understand the nature of your distress and the blocked or unknown or possibly forbidden feelings that tangle the process of achieving the life you seek.

You are bright, but you often don't know what you want out of life. You find yourself sad, lonely, sometimes rageful, and often without love. You are not alone. I understand the desire for control, and to 'know what to do.' I understand the fear that nothing will change. But you can change, as many have, and I can help.

I will help you listen to the small, quiet voice inside that knows something in your life needs attention. This might show up as a small knot in your gut that never completely goes away, or a thought that continually loops through your head. It can manifest as depression, anxiety, feeling stuck, or a sense of emptiness, like the color is missing from your life. Typically, we have been taught to avoid that feeling, to distract ourselves with life or work or our phone, to pretend we don’t feel it. The problem with this approach, though, is that it often doesn't work. In our work together, I can offer a different path.

Psychoanalytic Therapists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
