I see individuals and couples in my Practice. I see individuals, men and women , who want to work through internal blockages that are preventing them from finding peace within themselves or the ability to fill their needs more productively. I also work with couples with relationship issues, either to work through those issues or to work toward amicable separation. . I use Cognitive Restructuring, am fairly active during sessions, and aim at helping people become proactive so they can reach their potential in life.

If you're here, it's likely because you're feeling confused or torn up about how to handle some part of your life, and it's affecting you in a way you wish it wasn't. I want to help you get past that, and get to a place where you're feeling more confident about your ability to manage the difficult situations you come across, whether it's with your family, in your relationships, or at work.

There are times in our lives when we experience deep emotional pain that doesn't go away by itself. Sometimes, we can't even put our finger on what is bothering us, but it's there in the background. This can leave you feeling empty and alone. You've tried things to feel better, but as Rumi says, "maybe you're searching in the branches for what is found in the roots." In childhood, many of us suffered from the experience of emotional neglect, or CEN. That's when our needs and feelings weren't acknowledged or validated ENOUGH. We're left to our own devices to make sense of what happened... or didn't happen.

Where do we go when we are in a stuck pattern that repeats itself almost magically again and again in our relationships, at work, our parenting and dulling our creativity and spirit against our fiery will, wearing down our confidence, fortitude and hope? Or maybe you are in the wild eyed middle of change or in need of one that is painfully long overdue, but you just-can’t-seem-to-fully-step-forward. I specialize in working with adults to heal all the way. Yep, heal all the way-big or small traumas and patterns that can feel like an elephant on your chest or shoulders.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
