I work with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, couple and family therapy addressing the myriad issues that arise during the course of the human life cycle. It is my intention to help bring healing on deep levels to each client who enters my practice. I bring a mature, experienced perspective to my work, integrating years of my own personal work and professional training. I view each person with whom I have the privilege to work as an emotional, physical and spiritual being and use client centered, humanistic, transpersonal approaches, combined with a psychodynamic lens.

My preference is to incorporate a variety of modalities including psychodynamic,
attachment-based
, dialectical-behavioral, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to best suit your needs.
Do you find yourself stuck in a rut or in a pattern of behaviors that no longer serve you? Are you having a difficult time navigating complex emotions or processing a challenging past experience? I am here to help you make sense of all of life’s challenging aspects. If you have been considering seeking therapy for a while, but have been anxious about the process, I welcome you. This step you have taken requires courage and self-reflection. It is not a step that many take.

I am aware the path to healing can be a bumpy and uncomfortable one. I provide a compassionate and empathetic approach to this healing process. My approach looks at our internal wounds that left untreated, continue to cause pain. I like to ask, in the words of Dr. Gabor Mate’, ‘why the pain, not why the addiction?' We know using a substance or behavior is how we cope with the pain that feels unmanageable. Our pain, ‘dis-ease’, and dis-comfort often stems from unresolved grief & loss and are the result of 'what happened to us'. Let's look at what happened to us instead of what is wrong with us. I believe this approach decreases shame

Welcome! I work with individual adults and adolescents who are feeling stuck and desiring some sort of shift in their lives. This can look like a a life transition (going to college, career change, etc), relationship with yourself (the way you view and treat yourself), or shifting your overall mood (anxiety, depression, trauma). I aim to be a partner in change, rather than the expert on your life. I help people understand why they do the things they do by exploring how their past impacts their present day functioning. I offer tools for you to use in the present moment while we are gaining awareness of your patterns.

My focus is working with individuals who are striving towards a healthier and happier version of themselves. I am passionate about holistic nature and movement based healing, which includes mind, body, and spirit. I utilize nature and movement based healing practices by taking therapy outside into nature. This modality allows access to powerful natural resources to help you address your goals, increase emotional and physical well-being, and promote healing and resilience. In this practice, I offer a hybrid of tele-health and nature-based sessions where we meet outside. Limited office based sessions are available upon request.

Receiving news of your pregnancy can be exciting, yet overwhelming and scary. Everyone says how pregnancy is a beautiful experience, but no one ever talks nor prepares you for the scary side of pregnancy. You never imagined it would be this physically, emotionally demanding or draining. Soon, you find yourself experiencing intrusive negative thoughts about yourself, your baby, and the world around you. You wonder if you are even fit to be a parent. Additional outside stressors and the arrival of the baby contribute to feeling more overwhelmed and life becomes difficult to manage

I work with individuals in both brief and longer-term psychotherapy. I practice integrative therapy that is strongly grounded in psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused approaches. I strive to help clients increase awareness of thoughts and feelings, gain a better understanding of how their past contributes to their development, and gain skills in coping with stress and changing behaviors. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process in which the client and therapist work together to develop goals and treatment plans.

There are times in life when our paths lead us off course and we find ourselves struggling with serious issues like negativity, depression, worry, anxiety, interpersonal relational issues, difficulty with co-workers or unfulfilling marriages. Some of us struggle with unresolved trauma from our past, leaving us feeling distant, disconnected and alone. No matter how difficult your current situation seems, I believe that it is always possible to get back on track and feel better. In my years specializing in domestic violence, eating disorders and trauma related therapy, I have helped individuals, couples and families overcome multiple obstacles.

Promoting healing & trustworthy engagement for children, youth, their families, adults who come seeking shelter, emotional safety and refuge (see abbeypsychservices.com). Even the youngest demonstrate remarkable strengths with precise, attuned, attention to their levels of awareness, given new experiences to help transform distorted cognitive appraisals of themselves, others, relationships, the world. Working together, we cultivate more accurate appraisals of internal/external experience, shift into clearer, more realistic thinking, enhanced empathy, healthier, more effective coping styles. We co-create new, hopeful, cooperative stories to replace hopeless, repetitive, "traumatic reliving" within the safety of a predictable, nurturing, skillfully maintained therapeutic environment.

In working as a therapist since 2008, my capacity to treat individuals includes working with children and adults. With that, I also provide specialty services for women of color as well as those who are seeking spiritually-based treatment. I typically work from a Psychodynamic theory that is relationally-based and solution-focused. The typical person coming to my office is seeking a better understanding of themselves as well as a hope of achieving short-term and long-term goals for self-betterment. I am committed to providing individualized support to each individual presenting to my office.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
